This photoshoot of Quanxi and Reze was set in a bedroom, utilizing cool-toned lighting to create a tranquil bluish-gray atmosphere. According to the character designs in Chainsaw Man, Quanxi has gray hair and wears a black tank top, while Reze features purple hair paired with a white shirt, black necktie, and black stockings. To align with the original setting while enhancing the everyday lifestyle feel, we selected everyday-style long Black stockings tights, which took on a rich, sleek texture in the dimly lit room. The first shot took place on the floor, with Quanxi sitting on the bed edge supporting Reze's head while Reze crouched on the floor; maintaining this pose for a prolonged time made our legs quite sore, but luckily the outcome turned out gentle and natural. The second shot was captured lying on the bed; to keep the frame clean without excessive exposure, we utilized mist effects for soft coverage along with sparkling particles to keep the visual lively. The rubber duck nearby was an on-site prop used to lighten the mood, nestled in the floor gap. With the camera up close, post-processing on skin texture was exceptionally refined while preserving raw details.
Ultimately, creating a slice-of-life look meant simulating the quiet, harmonious intimacy of their private moments. Although slightly OOC given the gritty nature of Chainsaw Man, we loved this alternate take, and shooting it felt comfortable and natural. Quanxi's gaze toward Reze and her hand brushing over hair and legs emphasized a mutual feeling of protection. We played music during the shoot to relax and tap into a natural state. To convey dynamic tension between two characters, we experimented with numerous angles, such as highlighting the long-leg advantage of Black stockings through posture or directing eye lines to deepen the interaction. Post-production took considerable time, mainly for color grading and effect application, balancing the cool bedroom light with subtle warmth. As someone who loves Yuri cosplay, I believe this relaxed, serene mood best reflects their private moments and captures the essence of this everyday styling.
For hair and makeup, the purple wig required stacking two wigs to achieve sufficient volume, while the gray wig was trimmed for defined layering. Because of white reflections from the bedsheet, vignettes were added in post-production. A funny behind-the-scenes detail: during the close-up of Quanxi caressing the head, we had to carefully avoid synthetic wig glare to keep it looking authentic. Black stockings look stunning visually, but lying down can create fabric creases, so during the second shot, I constantly adjusted my posture to ensure smooth leg lines. In terms of lighting, to enhance the chilly tone, we shifted color temperature toward blue, switched off the main ceiling lights, and used only a desk lamp and fill light to produce dramatic chiaroscuro. In posing, Quanxi holding Reze needed to convey effortless chemistry—positioning Reze right beneath Quanxi's arm so hands could naturally rest on her head and leg. By the time we finished, it was already night and our toes were stiff from the cold, but seeing the satisfying results on screen made every bit of effort worthwhile. This slice-of-life portrayal opens up new possibilities for the characters without worrying about plot OOC, as private life differs from the battlefield. Behind the scenes, we even crawled around looking for the best spot for the rubber duck, finding it sat right below the gaze line with an adorable, goofy charm.
