[Reze Cosplay] Chainsaw Man: The Quiet and Broken Sensation of Daisies and Black Stockings

This set of photos was created with Reze from Chainsaw Man as the theme. During the preparation stage, I specially selected this purplish-red short wig. Its hair texture is soft, and the curve of the bangs is just right to shape the face. Combined with a clean base makeup, it creates Reze's detached look and cold, elegant aura. For the clothing, a classic black and white contrast was chosen, with a white sleeveless cropped top paired with a black pleated miniskirt and sheer black opaque pantyhose, which both embodies the lightness of a young maiden's figure and creates a strong visual focus in the pure white background through the black-and-white contrast. The chunky black shoes at the bottom also add a certain weight, making my posture more steady when lying on the ground.

The scene arrangement was the top priority of this shoot. To fit the somewhat sorrowful and regretful literary theme of "unfulfilled promises" mentioned in the post, we didn't use complex props but simply and directly chose a large amount of fresh white daisies. These flowers with yellow pistils and white petals seem delicate, yet they form an excellent color-blocked pairing with the black and white minimalist outfit and deep purple hair color. During the shoot, I scattered the daisies by my cheeks, chest, thighs, and feet, as if my entire body was growing out of the flower pile, or integrating into this white, quiet space in a posture close to deep sleep. While lying on the ground feeling the ice-cold touch, I also meditated on the character's state of mind bit by bit, letting that faint melancholy and casualness pass through the lens to the viewer.

In terms of photography execution, the photographer Chanyang and I reached a consensus, choosing a clean, pure white seamless studio backdrop and a soft, uniform diffuse reflection light source. This high-key illumination created no harsh shadows, making the details of both the person and the flowers completely whole, bringing out a texture akin to a magazine page. I tried different postures ranging from curling up and side-lying to natural stretching. Photos 1 and 2 used close-ups to freeze the softness of the head and the extension of the legs respectively, while Photo 3 with a full-body shot expressed the spatial relationship between the character and the flowers most completely. During the shoot, attention needed to be paid to the folded lines of the arms and legs, ensuring that amid the scattered daisies, the contour of the character's body remained fluid without looking stiff.

Regarding the clothing details, this matching is highly effective for a cosplay photo setup. The cut of the white top is simple and sleek, and the shoulder lines can nicely hold up the overall body shape, while the black pantyhose visually elongates the leg proportions. The black shoes and socks form a whole in light and shadow, shifting the screen's center of gravity downward, so I chose a lying position, allowing the upper body and legs to play off each other, presenting a relaxed sense of drama. Additionally, managing the wig required setting spray to fix the bangs, avoiding excessive messiness when lying down that could ruin the overall sleek feel. The arrangement of the prop daisies should be sparse rather than dense; the frame needs negative space to convey that quiet yet powerful state of life.

Looking back at this shoot, although it was a studio shoot, the plain environment and scattered fresh flowers filled the entire process with poetry. For graphic cosplay photography, emotional expression often outweighs special effects. How to recreate the original character's feelings at a specific moment through a single gaze or a curled posture is the common pursuit of both the photographer and the model. Through the simplification of colors and composition, we tried our best to let the atmosphere of the artwork itself surpass any cluttered background. The purity of white and black, the final touch of purplish-red, and that handful of bright daisies all narrate an emotional monologue that belongs both to the character and to myself, ultimately presented in this daisy portrait set of atmospheric photography.
