With eyes resting on this Pink dress, let's talk about this Komeiji Satori cosplay photoshoot. Early in styling, I settled on this high-contrast Western dress; short pink hair was much harder to style than imagined. To match the character's disposition, the hair stylist trimmed the bangs neatly and slightly curled the hair ends, ensuring the overall silhouette remained fluffy yet layered. Warm tones were used for makeup, with elongated eyeliner giving the eyes a gentle penetrating gaze, resonating with that focused presence of the line, "I will always be watching you."
For the costume, a gorgeous Pink dress design composed of multi-tiered ruffles and pleats was chosen, dominated by a light pastel pink and spliced with light blue fabric on the sleeves to break the monochrome tone. A golden button at the neckline acts as the visual centerpiece, complemented by two cascading light blue ribbons to balance the dress's elaborate design. During shooting, the skirt's volume presented quite a few challenges, especially when sitting on the sofa, requiring constant adjustments to the pleats and lace trim so they spread out naturally before the camera.
Props were the highlight of this styling, especially that red orb patterned with an eye—namely Satori's Eye—and the thin red cords connecting to it. The red cords were intentionally cut long to trace effortless arcs in mid-air, adding dynamic movement to the composition. While shooting, I adjusted my hand gestures so the cords flowed across the frame, creating an interactive "being observed" dynamic with the character's own focused gaze. To accompany this look, footwear featured pink plush platform slippers and white ruffled leg warmers; this pairing enhanced the overall doll-like aesthetic, with bow accents subtly echoing elements at the neckline.
The shooting location was set in a vintage-style interior where a dark brown leather sofa and oil paintings on the wall formed a rich, heavy background; this dark setting made the Pink dress pop even more in this Vintage portrait session. Light beamed diagonally from the upper right, casting long shadows across the floor to create the illusion of stepping into a classic European estate. In the second full-body shot on the sofa, I deliberately rested my cheek on one hand while guiding the red cords with the other; this subtle head tilt toward the lens conveyed the character's mysterious persona while showcasing the layering from collar to hemline.
From trying on the costume to the final edits, every step of preparation brought this Touhou Project character's essence into clearer focus. The ruffles on the dress, the texture of the wig, and the guidance of the red cords together sustained the character's visual presence. When fully immersed in character, I felt as though I were truly gazing calmly into the lens through that crimson Satori's Eye. From setting the wig to harmonizing light and shadow, every step strove to faithfully recreate the intended atmosphere. Being enveloped in the character's world is truly the purest and most enjoyable aspect of cosplay.
