[Moriya Suwako Cosplay] Touhou Project's Kero-chan: Showing Natural Agility Amidst Wind and Rain

Putting on this bamboo hat with frog-eye features and the purple dress outfit, the first thing to do was find a stream rocky beach that perfectly matched the setting. Daylight wasn't overly intense, which, paired with the flowing creek and lush mountain greenery, wonderfully displayed a cool natural color tone. This outfit is packed with details: the white wide-sleeved jacket features a dual-layered spliced design, while the purple inner skirt hem and collar are styled quite casually to preserve that airy feel. Accented with several red tied ribbons, it creates a vivid visual contrast against the green surroundings.

Actually, the weather forecast didn't originally predict rain, so we had prepared artificial rain equipment before setting off. But just as we finished setting up in the valley, real rain began falling—a few drops at first, gradually thickening into a steady drizzle. The photographer noted that natural raindrops hitting the water surface created ripples far more authentic than artificial rain, so we immediately decided to seize the opportunity, ditching several planned indoor studio poses to shoot entirely in the rain.

What impressed me most was the moment of stepping barefoot onto the green rocks. The rocks in the valley have been washed by water year-round, making their surfaces exceptionally slick; standing firmly without slipping while keeping a peaceful expression was quite a challenge. The pose in the third photo looking up to catch the rain was completed in one smooth motion. I held the lotus leaf prop myself; its blade was broad, creating gorgeous splashes when raindrops hit. Holding the stem with one hand, I stretched the other palm open toward the sky. Falling raindrops slid naturally down to my fingertips before dripping off, creating a serene sense of interaction.

The standing pose in Photo 2 is a composition I'm personally quite pleased with. A gentle breeze blew the white wide sleeves into motion, so I lifted my cuffs to let them spread out. Combined with the fresh green lotus leaf overhead and the veil from the hat half-covering my face, it captured that light yet slightly mysterious atmospheric vibe just right. Compared to the relaxed sitting posture in Photo 1, this standing shot conveys stronger dynamism and visual tension.

Though the entire photoshoot took three to four hours and soaked me completely, becoming one with the rain—a natural part of the environment—without any rain shelter actually felt much closer to her playful, natural personality in the lore. Walking barefoot across the stream, small pebbles occasionally scraped against the soles of my feet, but compared to mud, this was already very friendly terrain. Paired with photographer @夜空📷's angles, the final visuals brought out a strong sense of presence.

This isn't just about recreating a character's appearance, but more about conveying her trait of blending into nature and being unpretentious. No fancy shoes, no complex accessories—just a straw hat, a lotus leaf, and a simple dress. This minimalist yet spirited look leaves immense creative space during real outdoor cosplay. Taking a breather on a stream rock after wrapping up, looking at the calm creek and sheet of rain, I felt that even though it was tiring, encountering such timely rain and performing freely in front of the lens in this outfit made everything completely worth it.
