[Komeiji Koishi Cosplay] Touhou Project's Monster Girl: The Retro Charm of Green Hair and Jacquard Brocade

The combination of design and fabric in this Komeiji Koishi cosplay outfit delivers a powerful visual impact. When wearing it for the photoshoot, the meticulous attention to detail was undeniable, which is why we specifically chose a solid black backdrop to bring the character front and center.

Starting from the head, the black wide-brimmed hat is one of the key highlights of the ensemble. The brim edge features wavy, 3D cyan piping that breaks up the heaviness of black while adding a touch of playful charm. Stacked atop the hat are fabric roses in white, cyan-blue, and pale yellow, accented with a vibrant orange wide ribbon. This contrast between warm and cool tones instantly brightens the costume against the dark backdrop. The wig features a highly saturated emerald green with fluffy, layered trimming, paired with contact lenses matching the hair color to create an exquisite, doll-like charm with a hint of mystery.

Looking at the main garment, it incorporates intricate vintage dress brocade fabric. Its hidden gold patterns reflect a delicate shimmer under the light, forming a fantastic texture contrast with the black semi-sheer lace tulle on the shoulders and cuffs. Both arms feature loose lantern sleeve structures decorated with orange ribbon bows and delicate colorful beads, pushing the level of craftsmanship to its peak. Delicate gold lace trimming edges the collar and hemline—these layered patchwork techniques truly test a tailor's craftsmanship.

The two photos in this set showcase different props. In the first photo, I hold a blue bird-shaped flower on a thin gold rod with one hand, delicately covering my lips. This angle beautifully captures the expressive gaze and crisp facial makeup. In the second photo, I hold a magic wand topped with a glowing sphere, whose blue sequins reflect brilliant colors under the lights. Cyan-blue berry-vine decorations adorn the shoulders and arms, adding to the overall sense of fantasy.

Throughout the shoot, the photographer utilized excellent lighting arrangements. Since the outfit consists mainly of gold, black, and green, dark tones can easily swallow fine details. Thus, we set up soft key and side lights to preserve facial dimensions while perfectly displaying the metallic luster of the brocade and the translucency of the tulle, avoiding crushed shadows.

Portraying a character like this requires more than faithful costume recreation; it demands an understanding of her lore. While performing, I maintained a subtle balance between warmth and detachment. Through gentle adjustments—tilting my head as the prop neared my cheek and keeping an unfocused, dreamy gaze—I aimed to convey the subconscious, lively, yet innocent aura unique to this "Monster Girl".

The shooting process was a total delight, and the final photos matched my vision for the character. A great piece of work relies not only on high-quality costumes and props, but also on seamless teamwork with the photographer. Although the heavy outfit and intricate accessories limited mobility, seeing the defined fabric textures and vibrant spirit captured on camera brought a deep sense of accomplishment.
