These new official portraits are finally meeting everyone. Cutting straight to the point, let's talk about some of the concepts and details behind this photoshoot of Komeiji Koishi. To fit the theme of the underground rose and underground idol, we made some unconventional adaptations to the costume. We abandoned the original classic full-coverage skirt hem and instead used a slim-fit vest with black dark-checkered patterns paired with a layered, fluffy white skirt hem. The golden lacing and lace ruffles on the vest add a sense of gorgeousness, while the purple wavy trim along the edge of the white skirt echoes some of the classic color-matching elements of the character. The exaggerated fabric rose at the waist is a visual focal point; combined with the green inner-lined skirt hem below, it perfectly creates that decadent yet brilliant feeling of a rose blooming in the gloomy underground.
For the wig, I chose a mint green style with a slight wave curvature, which has a great face-slimming effect and looks more lively. Makeup required the most effort. To highlight Komeiji Koishi's trait as an unconscious youkai, I wore very vibrant red colored contact lenses. For the eye makeup, I deliberately elongated the eyeliner, applied a large area of green eyeshadow on the upper eyelids echoing the hair color, and added fine glitter to the lower eyelids, creating an ethereal vibe that is innocent yet slightly dangerous. The long black velvet gloves are also the finishing touch, retaining some retro gothic maid feel while increasing the line beauty during pose expressions. The purple transparent sphere prop connected to the chest was designed in the form of something like a connection cable or a microphone, reinforcing the underground idol setting.
In terms of action design, for the first photo, I tried a pose with both hands on either side of my head making a claw-like gesture, leaning my body slightly forward, and staring straight into the lens, presenting a visual impact that is both aggressive and playful. The second one uses the gloved hands to frame a viewfinder in front of the eyes, centering the red pupils within it; this action is more dynamic and full of interactivity. I wanted to express that vitality of burning and blooming as an idol even deep underground. As an addition regarding the headwear coordination, the small black top hat and lace bow serve as an important supplement to the uniform feel, preventing the overall head visual from appearing too thin.
The black leather leg rings on the legs paired with purple heart-shaped metal buckles also echo the overall color scheme and style in the details. The photos were shot against a solid color background to better highlight the main subject and the color contrast of the costume. Overall, this cosplay work not only strives for refinement in makeup and styling, but also aims to capture that elusive yet highly attractive trait of the character through subtle movements and expressions. I hope everyone can feel the warmth of this underground rose from this set of photos.
