This set of Saigyouji Yuyuko cosplay photos was shot in Hangzhou. Prior to heading out, I had been worrying about the cherry blossom bloom in Hangzhou, but fortunately, the weather on the shoot day was absolutely perfect. The entire set adopted a cool, ghostly blue-tinted color palette, which harmonized flawlessly with the character's elusive, otherworldly essence.

The trees at the shooting location were very tall. To create the visual sensation of being enveloped in a sea of blossoms, a telephoto lens with a wide aperture was used to compress the perspective, blurring the foreground cherry blossoms into soft, hazy color patches. Meanwhile, the background was darkened using blue-cyan gel filters placed during the shoot, accentuating the frame's mysterious depth. While this lighting approach looks like an ordinary night scene, it was actually shot during the day—by controlling the color temperature and knocking down ambient highlights in post-production, we transformed a conventional cherry blossom grove into a tranquil, blue-and-white realm.

In terms of makeup and wardrobe, I chose a voluminous blue-and-white gown. The delicate gauze fabric caught the backlight with a luminous, shimmering texture. The long pink curly wig was teased to be full and fluffy, introducing a touch of warm brightness that broke through the prevailing cool tones. Holding a blue folding fan as a prop, the ribs and fabric mirrored the color scheme of the dress.

The strong winds on the day of the shoot brought both challenges and opportunities. It required frequent spinning, tilting the head upward, and discovering angles in motion that captured the character's languid, effortless poise. In that split-second capture, the breeze caught the billowing hemline, the wig, and the drifting cherry blossom petals—the absolute perfect moment to press the shutter. I almost tripped over exposed tree roots several times from running too fast, but this authentic momentum is precisely what gave the photos their spirited vitality. The arc created by the swirling skirt formed an unexpected harmony with the petals cascading all around.

In post-processing, the primary focus was balancing the contrast between highlights and shadows. By selectively brightening the floral clusters while dimming the surrounding environment, the character appears to stand amidst a luminous sea of flowers. Under such a cool lighting scheme, it was crucial not only to preserve the intricate fabric textures of the dress, but also to maintain the dreamy, hazy bokeh of the original captures.

Attempting this style in Hangzhou for the first time made the journey full of surprises. The photographer and support team did meticulous location scouting beforehand, quickly locking down optimal camera angles despite the complex terrain. I thoroughly enjoyed this immersive shoot, striving to make every gesture evoke the ghostly, ethereal detachment from reality that defines the character. Given the chance to shoot amidst cherry blossoms and gentle breezes again, I would love to explore even more poses and angles through the lens to convey richer emotional depth. Ultimately, interacting with genuine natural landscapes is an invaluable creative experience for any cosplayer, turning the artistic vision of this Touhou Project shoot step-by-step into reality and leaving behind a magical memory.
