I shot a set of pure white-themed cosplay photos for the character Sea Breeze from Azur Lane. For the styling, a silver-white twin-tail wig was used, with rich layers in the hair strands. Paired with deep blue eyes and a clear red-lipped makeup look, the white bow on top of the head stacked with fuzzy hair accessories truly creates a soft, approachable charm. The overall makeup was intentionally kept minimal, emphasizing the contours of the eyes while retaining the natural skin texture.
The outfit features a short sailor-style design with a patchwork of light blue and white. The collar and cuffs are fully trimmed with thick white fuzz. Combined with pure white over-the-knee socks and matching fuzzy leg warmers, the all-white and light blue combination creates an icy, crystal-clear feel. The cut of this fuzzy outfit is relatively loose, allowing the skirt hem to spread out naturally in a sitting position, which perfectly complements the movements to showcase the character's leg lines.
For the setting, an indoor studio with a church atmosphere was specially chosen. The white cross, angel statues, and a large number of white artificial bouquets in the background not only echo the color palette of the outfit but also add a touch of purity and mysterious religious ambiance to the frame. Considering the characteristics of artificial light sources during the shoot, two high-power strobe lights paired with softboxes were used to illuminate from the left and right sides. Assisted by a reflector at the bottom to fill in the face light and leg shadows, the camera's exposure compensation was intentionally turned up by two stops to achieve a high-key portrait effect.
Although this high-brightness lighting method makes the subject's skin look translucent, it demands a very high level of environment rendering and highlight clipping control. During post-processing, I refrained from over-smoothing the skin, focusing instead on preserving the texture of the hair strands and fuzzy materials. Besides the dominant white-themed cosplay baseline, the dark black wooden cross in the photos serves as a perfect visual anchor, preventing the image from looking washed out.
During the shoot, I intentionally tried a sitting composition with a high-leg lift, which breaks the stiffness of a straightforward pose, increases the spatial tension of the frame through body stretching, and fully displays the details of the white thigh-high socks and the fuzzy decorations at the ankles. A low-angle shot also makes the subject's body proportions look more elongated. To capture the interaction between the eyes and the camera lens, the shooting rhythm was extended slightly. By continuously adjusting the hand placement, I finally captured a few moments with a relatively natural state.
This photoshoot was entirely aimed at recreating the characteristics of the character Sea Breeze, but it also incorporated my own aesthetic preferences in terms of light and shadow. I hope this set of glossy high-key portraits allows viewers to feel the character's freshness and softness brushing against them like a sea breeze.
