Slipping into this everyday sailor suit outfit of Yuuka Hayase from Blue Archive, we found several shooting spots inside the school gymnasium locker room that perfectly suited the character's temperament. The final photos turned out even closer to the lore than imagined.
Yuuka is a very distinct character in her design—not only for her exceptional financial management skills, but also for her unique aura balancing a lively senior and a dependable partner. To recreate this feeling, I specifically chose a purple twin-tail wig with a soft texture and subtle waves for a casual daily look, paired with small black hair clips to look energetic without being messy. For the outfit, I chose a classic blue-and-white sailor-collar top; tying the necktie onto the navy collar detailing, combined with the white short sleeves and cuff accents, naturally draws visual focus to the upper body, looking remarkably pure and refreshing.
The black stockings on the lower half were the core focus of this styling. Pairing black stockings with bare feet in the gym setting strikes a wonderful balance between athletic dynamism and feminine softness. When shooting the first cover image, I sat inside a blue basketball cart surrounded by iconic orange basketballs. This semi-enclosed cart composition was very clever—it not only gave dynamic tension to the lines of the legs wrapped in black stockings, but also cleanly separated the subject from the background, creating a sharp focal point. No collage layouts or distracting watermarks were used here; everything is clean and crisp, best capturing Yuuka's fresh confidence in a campus setting.
Across the full set of photos, we experimented with different compositional styles. For example, the following two photos utilized a picture-in-picture layout—one glancing back over the shoulder and one perched on a vaulting box—all designed to add playful storytelling to the set. In post-production, we composited a floating black-and-white halo overhead, which is an unmistakable signature element of her design; adding this halo instantly elevated the 2D anime aesthetic. During the shoot, climbing onto the wooden vaulting box beside the lockers and wheeling the blue ball cart back and forth to find the right angles felt like quite an effort, but seeing the final photos made it all worthwhile.
Many people might think of her school swimsuit cosplay, which is undeniably classic and charming, but I feel this sailor suit paired with the basketball gym setting more easily captures her vibrant, everyday side. That casual wear of a school uniform while carrying an earnest, student council member aura comes through effortlessly through body language in this attire. Set against the black stockings, the ankle and leg details were also preserved beautifully.
Whenever doing this kind of campus style photography cosplay, exploring different daily outfits tailored to specific environments always brings a fresh experience. Whether through mirror reflections on locker room doors or along hallway railings, clean lighting can always be found to enhance skin texture. The wig styling and makeup were also aligned closely with the original illustrations—bright, clear eyes and a determined gaze. No matter how many versions of her you've seen, standing in the sports hall in this school uniform with her blend of earnestness and subtle playfulness always makes one appreciate the thoughtful character design. Although this set is simple, every beam of light and posture was carefully adjusted, and I hope everyone can feel this pure campus atmosphere.
