To shoot these convention photography photos of Hansel from Goddess of Victory: Nikke, the biggest challenge to overcome was actually the reflection of the patent leather material. While this material appears eye-catching, it highly tests the arrangement of on-site lighting. In the studio booth of the Firefly ACG Expo, the lighting was highly sufficient, and the side backlight beautifully outlined the silhouette of the glossy black bodysuit and over-knee boots. Paired with the white lace apron and blue cross bows, the color scheme of the overall look is bright and clean.
The details of this outfit are actually very sophisticated. The pearl chain at the neck drapes perfectly, refracting a soft glow under strong light to neutralize the harshness caused by the large areas of patent leather reflection. The blue bows on both sides of the head echo the color of the long hair, bringing a touch of agility to the cool-toned look. The white pleated ruffles are crafted to look very three-dimensional, with each pleat perfectly supporting the silhouette of the costume so it doesn't drape limply against the black inner wear.
For the makeup, I chose a pair of translucent pinkish-red colored contacts, forming a high contrast with the blue hair without looking out of place. The base makeup was kept as clean as possible because the black reflective material itself is visually heavy; if there were too many colors on the face, the image would look cluttered. During the shoot, this patent leather bodysuit and thigh-high boots were absolute scene-stealers. The crisscross leather strap and buckle design of the over-knee boots visually elongated the leg lines, making the standing posture look incredibly sharp.
However, walking around the expo in this gear is definitely a physical workout. Patent leather cosplay materials have absolutely no stretch, so every time I needed to change my sitting posture on the chair, I had to be extremely careful for fear that too large a movement would burst the seams. Especially the tight squeeze of the tall boots; by the end of the shoot, there were obvious pressure marks on my knees. Fortunately, everyone was highly professional, immediately adjusting positions after each set of poses to capture the most stretched and natural moments. Since patent leather has very low breathability once it sticks to the skin, during shooting breaks, my support assistant had to blow wind into my collar with a small hand-held fan; otherwise, a few hours of shooting would indeed leave me drenched in sweat.
The setup of the scene also added a lot: pure white Roman pillars, blue and white floral arrangements, and a metal carved chair draped in lace fabric created a dreamy, quiet atmosphere. This forest-like, cool-toned background unexpectedly subdued the gloss of the patent leather, letting the focus of the image fall on the subject and the garment's tailoring, rather than just the simple reflection of the material. While shooting this set, I truly enjoyed this immersive experience. Although I had to constantly find a balance between controlling my facial expressions and keeping the outfit flat and neat, the moment the shutter was pressed, bringing together the cool aura of the character with the sharpness of the patent leather outfit brought a genuine sense of achievement.
With the crowds passing by on-site at the convention, I would occasionally hear people discussing the material of this costume and the character in a low voice. This feeling of being recognized and appreciated is the most healing moment after a busy day for those who put their heart into role-playing out of pure love. This set of frozen-in-time records of Goddess of Victory: Nikke Hansel cosplay is not only a tribute to the character but also a collaborative attempt to present a high-difficulty costume. Even the detail of adjusting the collar and cuffs during breaks makes me feel that this dedication is highly meaningful.
