This shoot of the Goddess of Victory: Nikke Dorothy: Pearl of Peach Blossom look was full of dreaminess from makeup setting to the final photos. When I initially selected this theme, I hoped to present the character's lightweight and slightly sacred aura in a pure white, palace-style scene. The layout of the chosen studio this time fits the theme perfectly; the pure white stairs, Roman columns, and cloud-like clusters of white flowers stacked at the stair corners visually form a clean and ethereal domain.
The details of the costume were even more stunning when actually put on that day. This modified Qipao blends many design cleverness—such as a Chinese-style small mandarin collar paired with short sleeves, lace patchwork at the cuffs, and lightweight, slightly puffed cap sleeves, giving the overall look a touch of youthful agility rather than the heavy feel of a traditional Qipao. Large areas of hollow-out tailoring are done on the sides of the garment to beautifully showcase the waist curve, while the embellished silver metal buckles and clip-on waist belt add a bit of modern elements and structural feel to the pure white simplicity. The skirt hem features irregular layered ruffles; it is a crisp short cut from the front, while dragging translucent pink tulle from the side-rear. When walking or standing on the steps, the fabric extends naturally, generating an excellent visual sense of flow. This contrast in textures is both a highlight of the styling and an aesthetic upgrade in cosplay costumes, makeup, and props through our Qipao cosplay journey.
In terms of hair and makeup, a fluffy and wavy long pink hair was selected this time, with the hair color leaning bright to maintain a vivid color presentation even under strong light and pure white backgrounds. The side is paired with pink-and-white flower hair accessories in the same color family as the costume, which is not overly complicated and just right. For eye makeup, I intentionally enlarged the eye shape, and the pupils present a non-everyday ethereal feel by wearing light grayish-blue contact lenses. When going on camera, this clean and translucent makeup merges beautifully with the high-key lighting setup, perfectly matching the character's temperament of being cool yet gentle.
For the choice of props, a white lace openwork parasol is a major plus. This umbrella not only echoes the vintage tone of the costume but also provides an excellent interaction point during posing guidance in our cosplay photography session. During the shoot, I would adjust my center of gravity according to the photographer's ideas, either holding the umbrella with one hand gently resting on my shoulder or tilting the umbrella slightly. In the shooting process on the stairs, to maintain the frame's sense of balance, I usually leaned my body's center of gravity slightly against the railing, paired with a crossed standing posture with one leg in front of the other, which both restores the character's elegant and composed demeanor and beautifully outlines the proportions of the figure.
This set of high-key lighting photos actually heavily tests the matte degree of the base makeup and the three-dimensional look of the facial contours. To prevent the face from being washed out by the flat light, I strengthened the facial light and dark contouring before shooting, while selecting a low-saturation nude-pink color family for the lip color to avoid stealing the spotlight. For the overall color tone treatment, we intentionally preserved the clean translucency of white, only slightly emphasizing the pink tone of the hair and some shadow transitions, ultimately letting the frame present a lightweight softness and delicacy as if being in a fairy tale wonderland. As a targeted Dorothy cosplay photoshoot, I am highly satisfied with the final presentation effect of this outfit, preserving the character traits while recording the unique design language of this costume through imagery.
