[Ajitani Hifumi cosplay] Blue Archive dessert time, a bright outdoor shoot record

When this Ajitani Hifumi convention photo from Day 3 of Firefly ACG Expo came out, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised. Since the schedule was pretty tight that day, maintaining a lively state in front of the camera relied entirely on the photographer and teamwork on set. I prepared a complete classic maid outfit look for this shoot; although the layered costume design made Guangzhou's outdoor May weather a bit sultry, seeing the bright tones in the final photos made it all feel completely worth it.

The lighting setup for this shoot was meticulously designed by photographer Kanchuan-Wenjin. For key light, Godox ML100Bi continuous light was used, which is a fantastic constant source that renders skin with great clarity even in cluttered convention outdoor settings without making it look chalky white. For backlight, a Godox AD200proII flash was deployed. To capture an airy feel, the backlight wasn't pushed at full force, but instead cast a soft rim light that illuminated the edges of my hair and separated the character cleanly from the background buildings and railings. If we had shot with front light alone, the frame would easily look flat; with the combo of key and back lighting, the white apron and light blonde strands achieved gorgeous visual dimension.

Clothing-wise, the classic black maid dress paired with a white apron and a sky-blue ribbon bow across the chest made for a highly recognizable color combo. The yellow halo atop my head is one of the souls of this look, nicely keeping the hair shape on both sides intact. To faithfully reproduce the character's texture, the skirt hem was specially crafted with a black base and blue trim, while the pleated white frill lining gave the dress excellent fluffiness. Combining white tights with black Mary Jane shoes visually elongated leg lines. With so many airy, flowing elements in the outfit, the photographer captured several dynamic moments. For example, standing on one leg while holding a small yellow cake as seen in the photo looks light and effortless, but actually demanded quite a bit of core strength. To keep my facial expression natural, I kept reminding myself to steady my center of gravity; thankfully, that captured instant looked very relaxed.

The shooting location that day was an open-air platform outside the venue of the Guangzhou Anime Convention (Firefly ACG Expo). Actually, this urban background formed by outdoor metal grid railings created a natural contrast gap moe when paired with the character's sweet, everyday maid outfit. The white railings not only served as foreground framing but also blocked distracting reflections from the glass curtain wall behind. Most cosplayers choose indoor halls for convention photos, but I personally think the color temperature of afternoon natural light outdoors is gorgeous; combined with Godox AD200proII fill light, image clarity was razor-sharp and the sky was prevented from overexposing.

Makeup and wig care also required a lot of effort. Since the character has iconic side bangs and twintails, the wig was restyled before coming to the venue. Coupled with ensuring headpieces stayed precisely in place without shifting, styling prep started at 5:00 AM that morning. Though the convention was crowded and I ran into friends along the way, the moment I stood in front of the lens, I strove to immerse myself into the character's presence. I don't really enjoy posing in overly staged, saccharine ways; instead, dynamic movements like holding a tray, tilting my head with a smile, or extending my arms feel much truer to her aura.

The final outcome of this photo set owes much to seamless cooperation with the photographer. Aligning on desired scenes and lighting direction before shooting made the session super efficient, finishing the outdoor portion in about half an hour. To me, portraying a character well isn't just about wearing the right outfit, but showing vividness and authenticity in front of the lens. Though the sunlight was somewhat harsh that day, with the help of the Godox ML100Bi and AD200proII, we avoided blown-out highlights and controlled shadow areas smoothly. This Firefly ACG Expo experience was a joyful memory for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed bringing an anime character to life through photography. I'm delighted to share this log with you all.
