[He Meng Miao Jie cosplay] JX3 Ming Cult: Gorgeous Exotic Style

When shooting this He Meng Miao Jie cosplay, the biggest headache was securing the tiered layers of sheer gauze and metal accessories. However, it is precisely these intricate elements and the vibrant, Exotic style red-and-gold color palette that brought out the character's temperament so well. During early styling prep, I spent a lot of time adjusting the fit of the gold cut-out top; because the material is somewhat stiff and does not contour completely to the body, sitting down or making slightly larger body movements easily caused the edges to slide upward. The red-and-white sheer gauze dress is actually quite difficult to manage—if not careful, the hanging gold chains on my body would easily snag the fabric, throwing the textures into disarray. Thus, nearly half our energy during the shoot was spent smoothing out garments and adjusting the drape of accessories.

Because a deep red curtain was chosen as the backdrop, considerable effort went into lighting to achieve a profound, high-contrast visual effect. Warm lighting cast against the red cloth, combined with cool white facial fill light, perfectly accentuated the texture of the garments and the delicate refinement of the skin. Wearing heterochromia contact lenses caused some dizziness within my visual field; the slight visual discomfort meant taking more time to find the camera's focal point, but seeing the exotic and mystical eye effect in the finished photos made all the grueling effort feel completely worthwhile.

Styling and makeup that day took quite a long time, particularly the red eye makeup and lipstick. To complement this gorgeous red-and-gold attire, the density of the eyeshadow and saturation of the lip color were deliberately intensified to heighten an aura of icy glamour and aloof detachment. Regarding poses, due to restrictions from the skirt hem and sleeves, large dynamic body motions were impossible, so I mainly opted for seated and semi-reclining poses, maximizing leg lines and the graceful drape of the long gauze sleeves to add layers and impact to the composition. Throughout the shoot, I also paid special attention to hand gestures; because the nails were styled with long stiletto tips, slightly slacking my hand posture would look unnatural.

During post-processing, focus was placed on enhancing the texture of the metal accessories, giving them a magnificent yet subtly vintage weathered patina. The heterochromia eyes were also fine-tuned in post to make the color distinction between both eyes sharper and more translucent. The atmosphere of the entire set was already established during shooting—this was not merely portrait photography, but a deep character recreation rooted in personal interpretation of JX3 Ming Cult in Ancient style cosplay. The weather was freezing during those days of shooting, making wearing such sheer, thin gauze quite grueling. The photographer constantly offered suggestions beside me, guiding how to pose elegantly without distorting the clothing. A bold red backdrop can easily overpower the subject, so facial expression management required maintaining a cold, proud, and aloof demeanor to hold down the backdrop color. Overall, it was a shoot that truly tested patience and presented a brand new challenge for my cosplay journey. I am very pleased with the final outcome.
