Putting on this Cerydra outfit and standing before the massive clockwork gear backdrop, I attempted a comprehensive full-screen perspective photoshoot. From the character's initial design styling to the final images, there are plenty of interesting details to share from this session.
Starting with the design of this styling, it features a classic blue-and-white color palette accented with extensive delicate gold lining, effortlessly crafting a noble yet cool, imposing aura. The off-the-shoulder cut of the top combined with asymmetric sleeves flatters the lines of the shoulders and arms while offering greater expressive range for arm poses during shooting. The pink floral ornament at the neckline serves as the visual anchor of the chest area, softening the detachment of the cool tones with a touch of gentleness. The pinkish-blue tassel accessories at the waist produce lovely dynamic motion when walking or turning slightly; although these are static photos, arranging them along the direction of natural flow gives the composition a vibrant, breathing feel.
The lower half showcases a deep blue skirt hem layered over white ruffled lining and edged with gold piping, offering distinct visual depth. Under the lights, the subtle lustrous sheen of the skirt fabric becomes strikingly prominent, standing out as a major visual highlight of this outfit once illuminated.
For the hair, this light blue-and-white gradient wig is the very soul of the character. The blunt straight bangs nicely frame the face, and the natural curls at the ends paired with the overall makeup allowed me to convey the character's aesthetic situated between reality and sci-fi without needing heavy cosmetics. The blue-and-black mechanical hair accessory pinned on the side is an ingenious touch, harmonizing seamlessly with the weathered gear designs in the background to make the subject appear more dimensional and integrated.
The shoot took place in front of a backdrop featuring massive luminous mechanical gears and white Roman pillars, complemented by sheer drapes cascading on both sides to establish a strong sense of spatial depth and narrative ambiance. In terms of lighting, soft cool-toned illumination was employed to make the pale blue hair and white fabric look impeccably clean and translucent. The clockwork gears in the background were exquisite props—light passing through their cutouts cast a delicate rim light along the edges of the hair strands, giving the raw unedited shots remarkable textural quality.
The blue-and-white long-handled staff prop in my hand also required considerable care. Its sharp black bottom edges and wrapped light-blue ribbons strike a balance between sharpness and elegance. When posing with it, paying strict attention to arm angles and staff orientation was essential; an incorrect angle could easily disrupt the overall center of gravity, requiring repeated fine-tuning before the lens to achieve the current balanced pose.
As a member of the "Chrysos Heirs" in Honkai: Star Rail, this character's design inherently carries a grandiose, mysterious sense of destiny. Compared to other characters in the universe, her structural design embodies both divine majesty and delicate feminine expression. Throughout the shoot, I strove to strike this balance—maintaining an upright posture to project an authoritative aura while keeping eye contact and finger movements relatively subdued to reflect her innate composure and confidence.
Because we aimed for a full-screen visual effect, composition required meticulous thought. Avoiding overly steep high or low angles, camera height was adjusted multiple times to ensure both the headpiece at the top and the base of the staff were fully framed. Meanwhile, positioning the subject relative to the center of the background gears ensured central framing with balanced breathing room around the edges.
Recreating such highly detailed characters is always a journey of self-reflection and refinement. From stepping into the costume to get into character, to fine-tuning wig and makeup details, and finally immersing oneself in the specific setting, no step can be overlooked. Seeing the final results, though the process was filled with sweat and repeated retakes, freezing this image in such a clean, complete manner made all the hard work entirely worthwhile.
