The preparation period for the costume and props of this Fugue Cosplay was quite long, especially for the massive pink plush tails. To maintain their fluffiness without shedding, plenty of styling spray was used beforehand. Due to the significant weight of the tails, a custom waist-support frame was required; during shooting, I also had to balance my center of gravity carefully, keeping movements controlled so the tails wouldn't tilt.
In terms of makeup, the red-and-black gradient long wig was relatively easy to style, but applying the red eyeshadow and red markings under the eyes took quite a bit of time. To fit the character's temperament, the makeup was kept cool and pale, with the red lips given a matte finish. For costume and accessories, the golden flower adornments on the upper body carried substantial weight, and the deep purple fabric with red borders had an exquisite drape, though putting it on and taking it off was tricky, requiring someone to help fasten the hooks at the back. The red-and-black patterned folding fan in hand was hand-painted by a friend, offering great texture.
Choosing this modern glass curtain wall building for the Outdoor shoot was mainly to create visual contrast. The cool-toned industrial architectural background better complemented the gorgeousness of the dark red-trimmed outfit and pink tails. The photographer helped find a spot with a No. 13 sign, which turned out exceptionally photogenic.
On the day of the shoot, to match the storyboard, I did many suspended sitting poses. Because the skirt is short and prone to accidental exposure, I prepared specialized safety shorts. Post-processing mainly cleaned up ambient color noise and added golden light trails and falling pink petals as special effects to enhance fluidity and atmosphere. In particular, the photo sitting while holding up the fan captured just the right limb extension and a cool, haughty expression, which I specifically saved for the cover.
The biggest challenge in portraying this character as a Fox girl lay in mastering the expressions—blending the languid charm of a fox demon with the majestic aura and slight disdain of a superior, which I practiced in the mirror for a long time. Additionally, the floating red ribbons in the air were composited in post-processing to match the movements, as keeping a ribbon in a perfect curve on site is very difficult.
The entire shoot took over half a day. My waist was quite sore from supporting the tails, and I only bounced back after a hearty meal afterward. The teamwork with the photographer was seamless; reviewing the raw shots immediately showed the final quality. For recreating the character design from Honkai: Star Rail, this was a highly efficient and successful Cosplay photography Outdoor shoot practice.
