Today was all about Toki! Even though it was swelteringly hot, I had to sort through these IJOY Convention photos right away. Cosplaying Asuma Toki from Blue Archive this time, the makeup prioritized a sheer, breathable base and delicate eye accents to capture her pristine, refreshing essence. Bright blue contact lenses paired with soft pink blush helped project a lively, spirited presence before the lens. The wig was a pale golden-blonde shade, with bangs and sidelocks textured using styling wax; however, managing a wig under such high heat was genuinely grueling, as even slight movements caused strands to stick to my skin, requiring continuous comb touch-ups.
The blue halo headpiece atop my head proved to be one of the trickiest hurdles of this ensemble. Composed of dual-layered concentric rings, it looks sleekly sci-fi but carries noticeable heft. To keep it from slipping during the shoot, I anchored it with a generous amount of internal bobby pins while letting stray hair drape naturally to conceal the clips. The structured blue-and-white collar around my neck was crisply tailored, complemented by a blue lanyard with metal buckles to stay as faithful to her canon design as possible.
The yellow-and-white cheerleading pom-poms in hand were instantly eye-catching props, requiring diverse energetic swinging and clutching poses that burned through stamina quickly. The convention hall was packed, leaving the background quite busy, so the photographer scouted multiple angles to cleanly bypass the crowds. Due to warm overhead spotlights and the oppressive heat, makeup touch-up frequency was far higher than usual. To prevent sweat from ruining the foundation, I constantly blotted with tissues to keep the skin matte and fresh.
Even though wearing this layered outfit under the blazing sun brought me close to melting, seeing the lighting and silhouette take shape on the camera display validated every single painstaking preparation. Cosplay is never just slipping into a costume—it encompasses makeup craftsmanship, prop building, and live performance. Sharing this first preview from today's batch, with more detailed convention shots on the way soon!
