After posting these photos yesterday, so many friends reached out asking for shoot details; since I have some free time today, I'm writing down a full recap of this Spring picnic lawn photo shoot session. Setting our hearts on the flower fairy theme from the start was all about preserving an airy, breathing set of frames right when spring's lush greenery reaches its peak. To do justice to the forest Elf cosplay concept, considerable effort went into the hair, makeup, and styling. For the wig, I selected light blonde wavy tresses with trimmed blunt bangs, braiding the sides into updo buns accented with pink and white floral hairpins. To heighten fantasy flair, pointed elf ear prosthetics were specially prepared. Affixing elf ears requires taping down your real ears with skin-tone tape, and carefully blending the seams with concealer and foundation—otherwise, direct sunlight will make them look noticeably fake. For makeup, the base was kept gossamer-sheer and luminous, with blush serving as the centerpiece: swept across the center of the face, nose tip, and chin to simulate a lively, sun-kissed glow. Eye makeup stayed clean with distinct, separated lashes, completed with a soft peach-pink lip.
The attire was a camisole dress in pastel pink and green, its bodice and hem adorned with dimensional applique blossoms; crafted from airy chiffon tulle, it flowed with effortless grace as I moved. For props, we prepared a white lace parasol, a yellow gingham picnic mat, a woven flower basket overflowing with sunflowers, and scattered bouquets of white and pink lisianthus. The colors of these props contrasted crisply against the grass, not only enriching the composition but also solving the awkward dilemma of what to do with your hands while posing—whether smelling a bloom, lifting the parasol, or simply leaning back against the grass gazing into the lens. In terms of gear, we brought two Sony bodies: the A7C2 as primary and the A7R3 on backup. Prime lenses with wide apertures were the core choice, rendering soft background bokeh under natural outdoor light. We scheduled the shoot after 4:00 PM, when the sunlight turns golden; side backlighting bathed my figure, casting a radiant halo along the edges of my hair.
When posing, strive to keep the body fluid and stretched out. Sitting on the picnic mat with legs crossed or gently extended, utilizing a wide focal length or slightly lower camera angle visually elongates leg contours. The dress is already rich in floral embellishments, so exaggerated gestures are unnecessary—sitting there quietly is a painting in itself. For kneeling or knee-hugging poses, curling the chest slightly inward accentuates the collarbones and necklines while inviting engaging eye contact with the camera. A grassy lawn is a remarkably forgiving and welcoming setting, endowing this series with a relaxed, natural, and romantic Mori style photography atmosphere.
As for cosplay insights, you don't necessarily have to constrain yourself to specific canon figures; an original fantasy flower fairy concept, as long as you capture essential motifs like elf ears, floral dresses, and forest vibes paired with fitting locations and lighting, yields equally stunning results. Featuring myself in front of the camera, once the desired palette and mood were aligned beforehand, we simply surrendered the rest to sunshine and gentle breezes—straight-out-of-camera raw shots were already breathtaking. I hope this recap sparks inspiration for anyone planning a spring portrait shoot: head outdoors more often and embrace the healing embrace of nature.
