This time, I brought the styling of Everson, the Admiral-class destroyer from the Iris Kingdom in Azur Lane, for a photoshoot in the convention backstage. The biggest highlight of this set of convention photos is the combination of an everyday loungewear style with elf fantasy elements.
The makeup and hair styling focused mainly on weaving the grey-silver long braided pigtails and wearing the elf ears. To match the hair color and the cool fair skin base makeup, a low-saturation silver-grey wig was chosen, which, accented with bangs and ear accessories, presents a soft highlight texture under the exhibition hall's strong light. The elf ears on both sides received meticulous gradient processing to match skin tone, enhancing the character's non-human traits. To accurately restore the design, thin iron wires were built into the braided pigtails to maintain thickness and shape, ensuring they wouldn't loosen during long periods of candid shooting.
The loose pajama set made of white sheer tulle spliced with lace is the core of the styling. The neckline features light blue ribbon crisscross lacing and ruffles, paired with a white lace choker around the neck; the overall low-saturation white and blue color scheme looks very refreshing. The off-the-shoulder design, combined with detachable transparent lace arm sleeves, visually lengthens arm proportions while retaining the comfort and laziness unique to a girl's casual wear. To keep the off-the-shoulder cut flat, invisible fixation processing was done inside so it wouldn't slip during big movements. The semi-sheer tulle fabric makes body lines faintly visible, which not only fits the design logic of sleepwear but also makes the character look lighter and softer in front of the lens.
For props, a hardcover book with a dark blue gold-stamped cover and a light blue smiling plush toy were chosen. These props echoed nicely with the blue ribbons on the costume in terms of color, enhancing the color unity of the composition. The book played a great behavioral guidance role in the frame, whether quietly flipping through it or casually balancing it on top of the head, imparting a serene sense of storytelling to the lens. The light blue plush toy served as an interactive de-aging prop; holding it naturally brought out a playful feel while filling the visual center of gravity of the frame.
The shooting location was actually very simple, basically completed on the industrial-style black flight cases in the convention backstage. The metal rivets, sharp corners, and matte texture of the flight cases formed a strong visual collision of hard and soft against the character's soft lace costume. Using these flight cases as seats or support points well-supported various sitting or semi-lying postures. Although the background environment was somewhat cluttered, thanks to the stable lighting control at the shooting site, utilizing front lighting and precise side-rim lighting captured the soul and charm of the portrait, perfectly implementing the so-called "three elements of portraiture." Even in a relatively complex convention space, the transparency of the subject and the texture of the frame were highlighted.
The barefoot sitting posture was one of the more deliberate design ideas. Unrestrained by shoes and socks, sitting barefoot directly on the cold, hard metal box surface reinforced the sensory effect of vulnerability and purity. Several different action groups were shot throughout the process; whether putting down a book, teasing the lace on the sleeves, or lowering the head in deep thought, they tried to stay close to the character's quiet and fairy-tale-like setting. The clothing material is lightweight and breathable, keeping warm in the air-conditioned venue without being too heavy to hinder movement, except that after sitting for a long time, one needed to make sure the lace edges didn't snag on the box corners.
Overall, this set of photos didn't deliberately pursue a particularly strong emotional expression; instead, through the documentary feel of convention photos, it faithfully presented Everson's quiet and slightly lazy traits. Amidst the bustling and noisy backstage environment, a special moment belonging to the Iris Kingdom was briefly frozen in time. The final light, shadow, and texture basically met expectations, and I am very grateful to the photography team for their grasp of lighting, candid capture, and angles throughout the process, leaving behind a light and soft memory belonging to the character through the lens.
