After setting up this scene at Iroha's new home, I decided to use this set of photos to freeze today's afternoon in time. Before going out this time, I specially chose a high-quality long straight golden wig, paired with a simple black T-shirt, aiming to add a bit of daily lazy vibe to the setting of Cosmic Princess Kaguya!. I didn't want the character to only stay at a gorgeous level, but rather truly blend into a life-like space.
The shooting location this time was a Japanese-style wooden house by the courtyard. A well-lit space under the eaves like this is perfect for Japanese-style room photography using natural light. The afternoon sunlight passes through the shoji doors and spills onto the wooden floor, forming a clear boundary between light and shadow, which is why I chose log colors and an earth-toned background as the main keynote this time. Holding a light pink cat-ear headphone is not only an iconic element of the character but also a visual anchor in this scene. Paired with the electronic keyboard beside me and the laptop on the tatami, the entire frame conveys exactly the state of my usual creative work at home.
In terms of angle selection, the photographer used a lot of top-down shots and side-sitting angles this time, including frames of me kneeling on the floor operating the computer, and moments of curling up by the doorframe hugging the headphones. This composition method can highlight the relationship between the character and the space very well. Especially the sheen of the light hitting the hair makes the entire set of photos carry a soft airy feel. Without overusing complex lighting, relying solely on the natural oblique light of the afternoon was enough to outline Kaguya's character traits. I actually value the translucency of the skin tone brought by this natural light, as well as the rim-lighting effect produced on the edges of the hair strands.
Iroha has maintained this house with great texture; whether it's the black-and-white patterned cushions on the tatami or the wind chimes under the eaves, they inadvertently fill the blanks of the frame. When preparing the props this time, the coordination of the electronic keyboard and string instruments also visually enriched the character setting, making this not just a simple dress-up, but more like me trying to explore another side of the character. This set of photos is one of my highly satisfactory recent sets, controlling the fusion of music, daily life, and anime elements just right. Next, I also plan to try more of this scene-oriented approach to create atmospheric photography, after all, a comfortable real environment can often convey the vivid life breath of a character better than a studio shoot.
