I finally restored the Chief's classic sailor uniform look at this anime convention. To capture that energetic yet slightly tsundere presence, I specially put some thought into the poses. The pose pointing at the camera in the photo is the angle I feel best embodies Haruhi Suzumiya's sense of "controlling the whole room"; combined with a slightly lowered center of gravity, the dynamic tension pops out instantly. The yellow megaphone and the black-on-red Chief armband are the soul props. Holding them or wearing them on the arm instantly brings you into the persona of the SOS Brigade Chief from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
The collar and skirt pleats of the costume were also finely adjusted to ensure no awkward deformation when walking or posing. The lighting on-site was quite complex, but the photographer captured the candid shots very steadily, restoring the blue, white, and red color contrast of the sailor uniform very cleanly. Cosplaying classic old anime is indeed rare at conventions nowadays, but every time I do it, it resonates with many fellow fans, proving that the emotional impact brought by classic characters is always there in the Anime cosplay community.
We took quite a lot of photos this time. There will be several versions from different angles later, such as hands-on-hips and holding-the-megaphone poses. If you want to replicate them for your own pose reference, you can try varying the angle between your arms and torso to make it look more natural. I hope these poses of mine can provide some practical references for friends preparing to cosplay similar characters, helping them get satisfying convention photos at the expo.
