This shoot brought to life the sportswear versions of the Railway Twins, Tachibana Hikari and Tachibana Nozomi, from Blue Archive. Their iconic light green wigs, paired with translucent acrylic halos overhead and clip-on elf ears, ensured high character fidelity right from the hair and makeup stage. We chose a room with wooden flooring and storage lockers as our primary set, stacking several yellow-and-blue volleyballs nearby to create the relaxed, everyday ambiance of a campus clubroom or equipment storage room during lunch break.
For the wardrobe, we opted for basic white short-sleeved Polo shirts with navy blue collar trim, paired with loose-fitting dark blue gym shorts and over-the-knee White stockings. White stockings really put fabric quality to the test; the subtly sheer material chosen this time looked fantastic under the light and, paired with the shorts' silhouette, visually flattered the leg lines to make them appear even more graceful. We shot in the afternoon when sunlight angled through the windows, casting dappled light and shadows across the wooden floor that added a soft natural filter to the frame. We barely used any artificial lighting, relying mainly on reflectors to add a soft fill light to our faces to preserve that natural afternoon sunlit glow.
In terms of expressive performance, capturing their signature mesugaki traits from the original canon was our primary focus. Embodying that slightly dismissive, tsundere, and playfully bratty personality required precise chemistry during duo interactions. Before shooting, we rehearsed physical posing multiple times in the room, as the core challenge of duo cosplay lies in synchronizing expressions, movements, and body postures. The gesture in Photo 2 where one gently pinches the other's chin was an on-set improvisation that ended up nailing the cheeky, intimate manga vibe perfectly. Additionally, we adjusted camera angles to prioritize mid-body and leg close-ups, highlighting the White stockings and shorts styling while keeping focus locked on our facial expressions.
During post-processing, we deliberately avoided heavy skin-smoothing and dramatic color grading, focusing instead on boosting highlights on the face and legs to give skin a healthy glow while deepening the warm tones of the wooden elements. The final set captured exactly what we envisioned: a relaxed, playful, and subtly flirtatious slice-of-life campus moment. Shooting sportswear-themed cosplay doesn't require elaborate props or sets—with natural lighting and authentic emotion, the scene naturally comes alive. Our duo collaboration went wonderfully smooth; amid bursts of laughter and minor adjustments, we quickly found our most comfortable shooting rhythm in this Blue Archive Tachibana Hikari cosplay and Tachibana Nozomi cosplay.
