This Rem gym uniform volleyball-themed shoot was completed in a white studio in Shanghai. This time, I went with an athletic ensemble: a basic white short-sleeved tee with navy blue piping along the collar and cuffs, paired with navy athletic gym shorts detailed with white side stripes. To fit the athletic girl theme, I matched it with pure white over-the-knee stockings. The overall blue-and-white color palette harmonized seamlessly with Rem's signature aqua short hair, creating a crisp, refreshing, and clean aesthetic.
When styling the wig, to capture her endearing, soft-spoken charm, the bangs were cut relatively blunt and thick, slightly veiling one eye. On the left side, I pinned two white hair clips—one cross-shaped and one rectangular—subtle details that truly elevated tight close-up frames. For makeup, I opted for a translucent, dewy 'plain water' look with the emphasis on eye definition, wearing light blue contacts to echo the wig. The base was kept lightweight and natural so it wouldn't look cakey or mask-like under the powerful studio lighting.
For props, I prepared a yellow, blue, and white volleyball. Against the stark white background, the ball popped vividly and served as an excellent visual focal point. During poses, using the volleyball as an interactive anchor helped avoid stiff postures. For instance, perching on a white circular riser with crossed legs while hugging the ball to my knees; resting the ball on one palm held close to my cheek; or raising both hands overhead while balancing the ball atop my crown—all added dynamic energy to the compositions.
Posing in white over-the-knee stockings on slick wooden risers was quite tricky because it slips easily, requiring tight core control to stay stable. For the shot in Figure 2 with one leg bent and my chin resting on my hand, I kept shifting the angle of my knee to flatter the leg line and the hosiery's texture, striking a balance between relaxed ease and athletic vitality. The photographer's lighting in the white cyclorama was spotless—uniform, soft illumination lit the white stockings cleanly while preserving natural, unblurred skin texture.
The entire shoot flowed smoothly as we explored multiple camera heights and framings, from full-body silhouettes to medium close-ups. Posing with a foot on the ball, cradling it, lifting it—we tried every possible interaction. My muscles were sore from sustaining the poses, but seeing that airy, crisp, sweet aesthetic on the monitor made every ounce of effort worthwhile. The shoot stayed fun and relaxed, delivering the exact buoyant vibrancy I envisioned.
