[Seiga Kaku cosplay] Touhou Project: Languid Hermit in a Traditional Style Cosplay Teahouse

Shooting Seiga Kaku cosplay in such a quiet, retro wooden teahouse, the required feeling started brewing from the moment I stepped through the door.

The tone of this photo set is languid, mysterious, and infused with a touch of detached aloofness. The off-the-shoulder white dress I'm wearing actually incorporated quite a few subtle styling ideas. Cross-straps at the shoulders not only added visual layering, but also formed a contrast with the ethereal texture of white gauze, complemented by subtle Nude stockings cosplay styling. The overall design preserved many ruffles; under side-backlighting, the interplay of light and shadow makes the white fabric look more dimensional rather than just a flat bright color.

For makeup, overly bright colors were avoided in favor of earth-tone eyeshadows and lipstick close to natural lip color, emphasizing deep brow bones and eye sockets to convey a cool detachment free of worldly affairs. However, to keep this cool vibe from looking overly rigid, I added a slightly upturned line at the outer corners of my eyes, which, combined with the richly layered short blue curly hair and those signature curled hair buns on top, unexpectedly introduced an extra touch of playful charm.

As a prop, this long pipe looks simple but feels surprisingly substantial in hand. During daily practice, I tried to find a state of casually idling with it rather than genuinely using it, so as to express an effortless composure before the lens in this Traditional style cosplay. The low wooden table and small teacup in the photos were actually original features of the location, serving as natural anchor points for my gaze to prevent half-body shots from looking overly empty.

Lighting settings on shoot day were fairly rich: the main light source was set to warm yellow, hitting me from a slightly higher side angle to bathe my nose bridge, cheeks, and shoulders in golden tones. The other side received a subtle fill of cool blue ambient light, which acted not only as rim lighting, but also clearly brought out the rough textures of the background wooden wall. Combined with artificial smoke created on set during shooting, the entire atmosphere became misty yet tangible, as if the teahouse were split into two worlds—with time flowing slowly in the half where I sat.

When holding the prop, my right thumb and index finger gently pinched the stem while other fingers relaxed naturally—a posture pre-planned before shooting. Letting my gaze slide downward along the pipe stem created a contemplative yet relaxed state. Later, in a shot where I slightly raised my eyes toward the camera, the photographer had just called "get ready," and I happened to catch that subtle emotion. This shot became one of my personal favorites: that lazy gaze carrying a hint of confidence brought the entire photo set's tone to life, breaking the stiffness from earlier poses with the pipe.

Rather than chasing perfect individual movements, I preferred being a quiet bystander inside the teahouse at that moment. The neckline of the dress opened just right to expose collarbone lines that, paired with slightly flared white cuffs, let light fabric drape naturally when raising a hand; these casual details often carry far more infection than rigid posing. After a few rounds with the photographer, we quickly mastered the rhythm of this minimal setting. Without requiring overly dramatic poses, a natural lean or resting an elbow on the chair armrest allowed emotions to flow smoothly through the empty spaces of the frame.

After finishing this shoot, I feel atmospheric sense of scene is crucial for cosplay; a great environment acts like a natural catalyst that instantly brings a character to life. This Teahouse photoshoot set not only demonstrates preparation in attire and makeup, but also includes our dedicated effort toward lighting and spatial awareness. I hope this final presentation of Seiga Kaku cosplay allows everyone to feel the wondrous experience of happening upon an intriguing hermit in an ancient teahouse.
