[Kaenbyou Rin cosplay] Bestowing Upon You a Premium Seat in the Wheelbarrow!

Preparing this Touhou Project Kaenbyou Rin cosplay photo set took some time from finalizing the concept to the final output. The costume design itself carries a rich old-castle gothic aura, so we deliberately matched this slightly mysterious yet gorgeous atmosphere in terms of lighting and scene planning. The cat ears were thickened for a more natural fur texture; paired with the red hair and twin braided pigtails, the upper half of the character styling was perfectly established.

The dress is the core of this outfit. The main body uses a dark color palette as a base, overlaid with a massive amount of teal-blue tulle ruffles. The puffiness of the entire hem and sleeves is fully maximized, allowing the layered textures to unfold completely when walking or sitting. Combined with the silver chains, teardrop pendants, crosses, and dark red thin ribbon accents, it achieves a visual balance of girlish playfulness and the refinement of a Gothic Lolita style. For the accessories, I specifically sourced brooches and rings so the overall details wouldn't feel monotonous. On my legs, I wore black stockings with a spiderweb pattern, paired with wine-red thick high heels with square buckles to elongate my leg proportions. From the full-body perspective in Figure 3, the overall silhouette fits the character's tone perfectly.

For the studio setting, we selected an antiqued old castle style. The scene was arranged with vintage gold-bordered picture frames, skeletal skeletons, distressed wooden candlesticks, white candles, and a carved wooden table. To infuse the frame with stronger storytelling, the photographer deliberately set a cool-toned teal ambient light on the left, supplemented by a warm-toned orange-red light source on the right. Combined with the smoke released on set, the entire scene was enveloped in a texture where reality and illusion intertwined—the cool color reflected off the tulle surface of the skirt hem, while the warm color illuminated my facial contours.

In terms of pose design, keeping in line with her identity as the wheelbarrow master, I designed several lazy yet high-aura postures, such as sitting on an antique chair or casually leaning against props. In one particular scene, I held a skeletal skull prop in one hand while resting the other casually near my shoulder. Paired with an indifferent, slightly upturned gaze, I essentially wanted to express that feeling of "this kitty looks lazy, but her aura is completely maxed out." The atmospheric vibe remained spot-on throughout the entire shooting process; though the multi-layered dress made movements slightly inconvenient, the final cuts made it all worthwhile.

As for the makeup, to echo the wig's hair color and the luster of the strands, the eyeshadow section selected a combination of warm red and earth tones. It wasn't drawn deliberately heavy, primarily emphasizing the contours of the eyes. The highlighting was also relatively restrained, retaining the skin's inherent translucent quality. Merging playfulness with a touch of wickedness, this style blends Gothic Lolita with anime-style photography aesthetics. I hope everyone can feel this character's unique charm, along with the tsundere nature and mystery of this wheelbarrow maiden that this costume design aims to convey.
