Cosplaying Second Form Dania at CICF tomorrow, so today I sorted out and posted this previously shot studio set. Truthfully, I've always been a bit intimidated by characters requiring oversized props; even though I jokingly claim I'm not cut out for combat and apply to slack off, just hoisting that massive magic staff during the shoot had me breaking out in a cold sweat.
This outfit is packed with fine details. The pink-to-white ombre wig paired with the small black wing hair ornaments, the blue diamond-shaped eye sticker, and the black choker around the neck required substantial time in makeup and styling to faithfully capture that delicate charm. The white parts of the costume feature abundant golden line trims and tag accents, while the voluminous pink sleeves have fluffy plush edges underneath, layered over an asymmetrical black-and-white skirt that creates rich dimension. Wearing red gloves and black chunky-heeled Mary Janes while perched on a white wrought-iron settee, relaxing my posture just a touch immediately brought out a gentle, languid mood.
The studio set was incredibly on point: the backdrop featured vibrant pink hues accented by white cutout archway decorations, framed by a floor carpeted in blue-and-white flowers and plush rugs that matched the character's palette flawlessly. To flatter the leg lines during the shoot, I deliberately rotated through several seated poses; resting the staff horizontally versus holding it upright yielded completely different vibes. The pink-purple orb and crescent moon crown atop the staff are major eye-catchers, but the weight was undeniably real—my arms were thoroughly sore the next day.
Because I shoot frequently, whenever large-scale props are involved, I plan out postures in advance—like leveraging the settee to prop the staff up, and ensuring hand gestures look organic rather than stiff. For makeup, I also experimented with soft reddish-pink blending at the outer corners of the eyes alongside cosmetic contacts, hoping to align even closer with the character's persona. While I might not be good at fighting, pouring effort into presenting the character's allure before a static lens is my own little pride as a cosplayer.
Tomorrow is CICF, and the gear for Second Form Dania is pretty much set. Thinking about roaming the convention, meeting up with friends in person, and checking out everyone's amazing cosplay brings a rush of excitement. Hopefully tomorrow won't be too sweltering and the venue air conditioning pulls its weight. Looking forward to smooth Convention photos and official sets coming out of it. Posting this set today as a warm-up—see you all at the convention tomorrow!
