Bringing this nurse version of Shimoe Koharu to life required considerable preparation right from the start. For the wig, I selected a soft pink-white base, spending nearly two hours trimming and sculpting it to match the airy volume of the original artwork. The nurse cap has a rather unique structure and required careful pinning so it wouldn't shift or slip while moving around. To stay faithful to the character, I made sure the stethoscope had a pink tube, paired with white stockings and gloves, preserving a clean, crisp palette of pure white and pastel pink.
The clipboard in my hand was a last-minute prop holding a few sheets of plain paper. The convention venue was cavernous that day, with harsh overhead spotlights and expansive, open surrounding space. Because the original illustration features a dramatic perspective, the photographer had me sit atop a metal folding stepladder to reproduce that sitting angle. Holding a stable seated pose meant keeping an eye on both the leg-crossing angle and the elongated lines of the torso. Balancing high heels against sleek white stockings made gaining purchase on the ladder tricky, requiring steady core engagement to ensure the posture didn't collapse.
As hinted at the start of the post, the lighting environment on site really put us to the test, and maintaining a fixed pose for extended stretches proved a real challenge to stamina and focus. The several chibi Koharu plushies pinned to my outfit served as wonderful decorations, but during shooting they needed precise angling to create a sense of interaction with the main figure rather than looking randomly placed. The plushies resting on my shoulder and arms had to be adjusted so they wouldn't obscure key areas while blending naturally into the frame.
For composition, we utilized the exhibition hall's soaring ceiling and reflective flooring to construct an expansive, cool-toned spatial depth. The photographer experimented extensively with depth of field, heavily blurring passing attendees and distant booths in the background so visual focus locked squarely onto the foreground subject and props. To accentuate the crisp fabric of the nurse uniform and the sheen of the white stockings, lighting angles were repeatedly refined to prevent flat whites or blown-out highlights.
Being able to present Shimoe Koharu's nurse look like this was made possible by careful attention to costume details beforehand and meticulous micro-adjustments to every pose during the shoot. The little plushies in the lower left corner also struck adorable poses to match the vibe, adding lively layers to the shot. Taking every shutter click seriously and faithfully capturing the character's temperament was the true heart of this set.
