Today's Dark witch styling actually took a great deal of effort in the details. First, regarding the costume coordination, I chose a black reflective corset as the centerpiece of the upper body. This glossy material gleams gorgeously under the sun, but demands an exacting fit to the body, requiring considerable time adjusting the back lacing to sculpt the ideal waistline contour. The semi-sheer lace cutouts on the chest, along with the horizontal pink stripes across the abdomen, were designed to echo Megurine Luka's signature color palette within the dominant black-and-purple theme.
The purple star fishtail skirt on the lower half was the centerpiece of the entire costume. To capture the snug, sculpted silhouette of a mermaid tail, the interior of the skirt was reinforced with a rigid support structure, restricting my stride to small, shuffling steps. The surface of the skirt bears faint star patterns that refract twinkling specks of light. Crisscrossing black leather straps and golden circular buckles serve not only as ornamentation, but also visually tighten the silhouette. The pink ribbon bows adorning the back waist and sides soften the rigid coolness of the black leather, introducing a touch of youthful, playful flair.
Regarding hair and makeup, the long straight pink hair with blunt bangs needed thorough combing after putting on to remain sleek and frizz-free. The white eyepatch over my right eye was the core accent of this Pink-haired eyepatch styling; considering long hours of wear, I added a soft anti-slip pad inside. A cool-toned makeup look paired with blue contact lenses brought my demeanor much closer to the witch persona. The black long-handled staff in my left hand had significant weight due to the geometric cutout structure at the top; to keep my posture relaxed during photos, I continually calibrated the center of gravity in my wrist to avoid sore hands from holding it aloft.
The outdoor sunlight was very intense on the day of the convention, posing some challenges for the shoot, but fortunately, the photographer knew exactly how to leverage reflective materials. In the crowded venue, we sought multiple angles to dodge distracting backgrounds. Poses that seem effortless in the photos were the result of continuous on-site dialogue and refinement. For instance, the slightly open-handed gesture in the second photo allowed the wide flared bell cuffs to drape naturally, showing off the delicate white lace trim along the edges and giving the frame greater vitality.
Cosplaying a character with a long fishtail skirt and elaborate accessories is truly a test of stamina when navigating a convention, especially with the constant constriction of a corset to preserve this dark aesthetic silhouette. Yet being able to bring my interpretation of the nocturnal form of Little Raccoon collaboration Witch Megurine Luka into reality—harmonizing the sharp edge of the black corset with the fluid grace of the purple star fishtail—was an immensely enjoyable creative journey. Every detail across props, costume, and makeup was dedicated to building a richer, more multidimensional presentation of the character in reality for these Convention photos.
