[Sparkle cosplay] A Playful Moment of the Masked Fool in Honkai: Star Rail

Looking at myself under the lens while editing this Sparkle cosplay set was truly fascinating. From the initial prep to the final images, the entire process was a real test of attention to detail.

First was the hair: to recreate the airy feel of those pink-and-white twin-tails, I had to increase the wig's volume while precisely styling the braided sections on the sides. The black rabbit-eared top hat with the white bow is one of the visual highlights of the styling. To secure it, we added an inner support bracket and invisible hairpins so it wouldn't budge no matter how I moved, allowing us to adjust its angle anytime to match the camera.

For the makeup, I deliberately emphasized the eye contours. Sparkle's signature pink contact lenses are the soul of the look—putting them on gets me into character instantly. The red eyeliner wing combined with the heart-shaped mark on my cheek beautifully sculpts my eye and face shape. Paired with perfectly curled false eyelashes, my gaze captures her cunning without looking too stiff. The base makeup was kept matte, with a touch of highlight at the inner corners of the eyes, displaying a clean, translucent skin texture under the studio lights.

As for the outfit, the red, black, and white color-blocked design is incredibly flattering on my skin tone. Especially the black choker with the small bell, which makes a subtle ringing sound as I move, adding plenty of interactive fun. The sleeves feature asymmetrical ruffled cuts with a slight puff to flatter the arm lines. Meanwhile, my partner wore a red-and-black Japanese-style corset outfit, and her massive red bow hair accessory beautifully balanced our visual weight, forming a distinct color harmony.

The backdrop of this shoot was a Japanese-style studio. The bamboo curtains, vintage wooden tables and chairs, and artificial cherry blossom branches in the background all served to enhance the character's anime vibe. During the shoot, I used an oil-paper umbrella as a foreground block, which, combined with side and backlighting, fully brought out the gorgeous sheen of the hair strands.

Shooting alongside my wonderful partner @TOOGI, the hardest part was actually expression control. We tried out many poses in front of the lens; because we had to lean in close, we had to maintain compositional balance while presenting a naturally relaxed atmosphere. The cheek-to-cheek poses and peace signs in this set were actually selected from dozens of candid captures to find the absolute best angles. That intimate interaction is simply joyful to look at.

Although we mentioned an 'OOC (Out of Character)' apology in the post, I personally feel that Cosplay is all about interpreting characters with love. While it's impossible to achieve 100% personality accuracy, the dedication shines through when you maintain high harmony in the costume details, makeup features, and set construction. Sitting aside afterwards to organize the mountain of wigs and outfits was exhausting, but the sense of achievement was immense. I hope friends who love Sparkle and the atmosphere of Honkai: Star Rail can feel the joyful energy we shared in the studio through these photos as part of our Coser daily life.
