Adjusting the hair and makeup for this Megumi Kato cosplay, the focus is on highlighting the natural-looking straight bangs and brown short hair. The wig was trimmed very meticulously; when wearing the plush beret, I deliberately adjusted its position to give the overall styling a well-behaved yet slightly detached daily life atmosphere. The classic white shirt layered with a red knit cardigan, complete with a small highlight of a black lace-up bow at the collar, paired with a white ruffled short skirt and white over-the-knee socks with lace trim, makes this casual outfit contrast sharply in red and white colors, yielding great prints.
The location for the outdoor photography was specially chosen on a sloped land full of purple verbena, with a background of woods where autumn is gradually deepening. This kind of scene with natural elevation drops and soft colors is perfect for setting off this daily academy-style look. The shooting time was selected in the afternoon when the light feel is relatively soft; sunlight pours down from the upper side, hitting the grass through the gaps between leaves, giving a lazy and warm visual sensation.
This shoot also brought along two very important complementary elements: a black student backpack and that small white rabbit plush toy. They not only visually fill the emptiness of the frame but also make the character's life breath more vivid. Placing the plushie by my feet, playing with it in my hands, or carrying the backpack while holding the white beret with one hand—these seemingly casual actions all allow the character to form a natural connection with the environment. In this photoshoot, I personally love the photo of lying on the grass. With hands crossed propping up my chin, my gaze calmly looks out of the frame, paired with my lower legs slightly raised behind me, as well as the backpack and little rabbit on the right side of the frame, creating a sense of relaxation as if enjoying a quiet afternoon alone. Additionally, the standing poses each have their own features: one shows a quiet side with hands crossed holding the backpack straps while looking straight ahead; another is a dynamic candid capture with raised arms and a slightly tilted body, oozing a natural and lighthearted vitality.
In terms of post-production color grading, I lean toward reducing the overall contrast and adding a warm yellow tone, which nicely fits the autumn outdoor atmosphere while making the main character's skin tone appear more translucent. Coupled with the depth-of-field processing of a large aperture, the chaotic grass is moderately blurred, allowing the purple flowers and the character's red and white clothing to stand out more prominently in the frame, creating a richly layered Japanese-style photography texture. The entire set of photos does not deliberately emphasize dramatic emotional fluctuations, but focuses on catching those unadorned moments, presenting a natural 2D daily life state.
Honestly, portraying a character with such a unique temperament doesn't rely on overly exaggerated props or special effects; one just needs to feel with the heart her characteristic composure and detachment as an ordinary high school girl. The ambient light of the outdoor setting, the tone of the distant woods, plus the original colors of the costume are already enough to tell her story. This is precisely the delicate moments I hope to record through this outdoor photography log, attempting to restore that sense of ease and daily routine through imagery, using the natural state of the environment and the character to present her own quiet power.
