Let me start with a cautionary heads-up for folks not based locally in Shanghai: if you're planning a dedicated trip solely for Ah Pangbai, it honestly isn't worth the detour. The venue's physical conditions are quite discouraging—the AC is virtually non-existent, and the seating is intensely cramped, making moving around awkward. Collab merchandise is also extremely scarce, limited strictly to clear cards. To make matters worse, each table receives only a single clear card regardless of party size, which significantly dampens the experience for groups.
Hardware shortcomings aside, the human hospitality and service were genuinely impeccable. The maids were extraordinarily warm, professional, and talented. There was a generous maid roster on shift, all exceptionally charming, making interactions feel effortless and delivering immense emotional value without a hint of awkwardness. For the occasion, I wore a pink-and-white Lolita outfit coordination crowned with a white lace bunny-ear headband, featuring tiered ruffled hems and a sheer white lace overshirt that harmonized delightfully with the cafe's pastel pink-and-blue pixel-art decor. My boyfriend snapped numerous photos of me; the colossal pixel-art display screen made for a stellar, photogenic backdrop.
On the dining side, the pink ice cream sundae and pudding platter were plated daintily, though the taste was fairly standard. The biggest highlight was the in-house DIY crafting activity. The cafe provided vibrant acrylic paint markers, allowing us to doodle across clear acrylic photo frames and Instax polaroid prints between bites of dessert. I drew clusters of hearts and cartoon motifs, inscribing the date alongside sweet doodles. Seeing the adorable pixel sprites printed across the table placemats, I couldn't resist posing with the pixelated cardboard standees for several snaps. The interactive crafting felt deeply engaging, and handmaking a physical souvenir was thoroughly satisfying.
Overall, this Store visit check-in earned top marks for service while losing points for physical comfort. If you already reside in Shanghai and are looking for a spot to hang out with fellow fans, soak in warm maid cafe hospitality, and enjoy casual craft DIY, it's worth a visit. But traveling from afar to endure muggy, crowded quarters might feel disappointing. Hopefully management upgrades the air conditioning and collab stock allocations going forward so everyone can enjoy a far more comfortable visit.
