[Nao Tomori cosplay] The Promised Girl from Charlotte: Silver Hair and Blue Eyes

The theme for this shoot was the promised rendezvous with Nao Tomori. In terms of makeup, to suit the character's temperament, besides the essential blue colored contacts, the eye makeup used a softer blending technique. The base makeup had to be clean and translucent, as the character herself gives a lively, youthful impression, and heavy foundation would ruin that crystal-clear transparency.

The wig took the most effort. For this White-haired twin tails wig, I had to style and pin the top hair buns myself, carefully controlling their height and position. The length of the bangs was adjusted for a long time so that they just grazed the eyebrows without obstructing the view of the blue contact lenses. The curve and thickness of the twin tails were also recombed according to the character's habits, ensuring a flattering silhouette even during dynamic poses. Getting used to the colored contacts took a moment, but the vivid blue eyes paired with silver-white hair truly made the gaze sharper and more focused.

As for the wardrobe, this red-and-white Sailor suit outfit was custom-made. The white section around the collar was made with a fabric that drapes nicely, and the red-and-white color-blocking with deep crimson piping gave the entire silhouette a crisp finish. The yellow ribbon bow serves as the crowning touch—the knot placement and bow proportions were adjusted three times so that it rested right at the chest, neither too high to look cramped nor too low to look sloppy. The dark red piping and white line accents at the cuffs also had to be smoothed out meticulously to ensure the texture in the photos faithfully captured the 2D anime design.

Essential props during the shoot were the smartphone and wired earphones. When shooting this set, I deliberately wore the earphones and posed holding the phone as if about to listen to music, closely mirroring the character's everyday habits. This slice-of-life casualness is a unique charm of Nao, so rather than striking overly complicated poses, capturing these candid, unforced moments worked much better. The phone case design was kept distinct from the outfit; a solid-colored case ensured it wouldn't distract from the red-and-white uniform. The white cable of the wired earphones draping naturally down actually flattered the visual lines of the clothing.

The gaze was another focal point of character fidelity. Tilting my head slightly down or glancing up into the lens with slightly pursed lips retained the character's cool demeanor without feeling overly distant. Even though the shoot took place at a busy convention, background bokeh filtered out the visual clutter, keeping full focus on the subject in these Convention photos. The lighting was a mix of natural ambient light and soft diffuser bounce, creating gentle, flattering facial gradations. To find the optimal light, we circled the venue a few times to avoid harsh directional lighting, finally settling on this flat, wood-grained flooring area.

When selecting the final photos later, I chose this one for its natural and relaxed demeanor. Turning slightly to the side showcased the tailoring of the sailor suit while cleanly presenting the gesture of holding the phone. The white wired earphones harmonized smoothly between the white sweater and silver hair. The wired earphones hold significant character symbolism: compared to today's ubiquitous wireless earbuds, wired earphones reinforce that nostalgic campus youth vibe. Holding the phone near the chest with fingers resting lightly on the edges naturally conveyed the feeling of listening to music on the go or getting ready to message someone.

After a full day of shooting, I felt I had truly captured the essence of the character. The tailored cut of this red-and-white Sailor suit outfit fit wonderfully, and the yellow bow tie added vibrant dimension to the subject. The long White-haired twin tails provided fantastic visual tension whether viewed from the front or the side. The shoot went very smoothly, successfully capturing that soft yet quietly stubborn nature of Nao Tomori cosplay.
