[Seed cosplay] Summer Sea Breeze in Zenless Zone Zero's Waifei

In Zenless Zone Zero, Waifei isn't a traditional seaside city by lore setting, but the tranquility of this sea felt extremely fitting for Seed. This was my first time doing a Seed Custom design cosplay—rather than strictly copying in-game boxed stage environments or combat outfits, I incorporated my own subtle ideas to present a more casual and relaxed Seed in front of the lens.

Regarding outfit recreation, the light blue wig was what I cared about most. To echo the visual baseline of her original design, the wig was styled with airy straight bangs and braided on both sides so that when the sea breeze blew, the hair strands wouldn't get too messy while preserving her silhouette. I discarded the tough elements like armor and straps from original art, opting instead for a lightweight, soft white knit shawl over a light blue and white camisole. This Casual cosplay subtraction aimed to emphasize a beach vacation vibe, preserving her original freshness while adding a casual feminine charm.

On the shooting day in Waifei, the wind was strong and sunlight intense. Waves crashing against rocks made heavy noise; though we had to stand close to hear the photographer, this authentic ambiance helped submerge the character completely into the environment. The 2D illustration composition in the first picture gave me great inspiration, so I mimicked that turning-back pose by the railing. Capturing an eye expression that felt weary yet clear was quite a test of emotional control.

For equipment and medium choices, besides high-res digital shots, I specifically printed a physical Polaroid photo, which is the second image you see. Holding the physical Polaroid while shooting, seeing the frame capture the blue ocean and white silhouette, felt like freezing time in summer. The grain and subtle color shifts of physical photos offer a completely different flavor from digital straight-out-of-camera images, giving this Seaside photoshoot a memorable touch. The third shot leaning sideways on the railing is a personal favorite. Sunlight reflected off the sea surface onto the lens, creating a natural diagonal flare. Rather than avoiding it, the photographer kept this double-exposed lens feel, making the image look like a timeless vintage photo with a warm, healing filter.

Seed has always been a multifaceted girl in my mind. Although "custom design" sounds like a personal reinterpretation, I believe a good custom design doesn't overturn a character's core identity; rather, it places her in a familiar everyday context to let her charm shine. She might occasionally watch the sea alone, enjoying the touch of the wind and sound of the waves. Concrete-izing this state through cosplay felt magical. There were unexpected episodes—hair blowing onto my face or curious looks from strangers—but these all became vivid parts of shooting memories.
