Bringing out a new set of gear for this World Line Anime Convention, the overall yellow-green color palette actually absorbs more light under indoor lighting than outdoors. The lighting on-site at the anime convention was quite harsh; rows of circular spotlights on the ceiling hit the grey concrete floor, creating a very sharp contrast with this highly saturated yellow-green clothing. When releasing the photos, we specially selected a few clean angles to avoid the cluttered crowds, using this industrial-style concrete space to accentuate the character's sharpness.
The color coordination of this costume is actually quite sophisticated, utilizing a large area of yellow-green as the main tone, paired with lake-blue lines on the chest and neckline as clashing color embellishments, making it visually playful and refreshing. The black leather straps at the neckline, cuffs, and waist ground the bright colors, and along with that wide black belt, the sense of layering immediately becomes much richer. The wig was styled into highly layered straight hair, with loop-shaped buns made on both sides of the head and bound with matching colored bowknots. To coordinate with the overall look, light blue-green colored contacts were specially worn to make the gaze look more focused and colder.
The prop weapon is the main highlight this time. It is a quite large weapon in a heavy mechanical style; its deep grey and gold paint coating presents a nice metallic texture under the lights, with some separate parts and detailed carvings on the surface. It still carries a certain weight in hand, so attention needed to be paid to adjusting hand movements and the center of gravity when taking photos. The handle part of the weapon happens to echo the golden heavy armor on the right arm, and the black leather gloves fit very well in combination. To enhance the overall rugged feel, a pair of patent-finish black high-heeled over-the-knee boots was worn, featuring thick platform soles. This material has a strong reflective effect under the on-site top lighting, invisibly elongating the leg lines.
We tried three different compositions and poses for the photoshoot that day. The first is a cross-legged standing stance, with the right hand holding the weapon draped by the side and the gaze slightly turned away, which beautifully showcases the silhouette of the entire costume while displaying the complexity of the prop. The second is a holding action with both hands leveling the weapon, with the center of gravity slightly leaning forward; under this posture, the weapon's tension and the frame's sense of oppression become stronger, making it perfect for displaying dynamic movement. The third shifts into a sitting pose, using the left hand to support on the ground while the right hand steadies the weapon, letting the whole person relax while the massive weapon prop naturally presses against the ground, pulling off a casual yet dashing feel.
The joy of anime convention photos lies exactly in recording the authentic state of the moment. This kind of indoor studio or exhibition hall environment actually heavily tests the makeup details and the smoothness of the costume; any slight wrinkles become highly obvious under the direct top light. Fortunately, the fabric material of this costume is relatively structured, so the outcome of this Cosplay photography session was sharper than expected. The overall feeling from the shoot is that this kind of battle-heavy look featuring mecha elements can indeed beautifully build out the character's contour against a cool-toned concrete grey and black steel frame background. Recording the state of this mecha style outfit was a highly joyful exhibition experience.
