Shooting a poolside photo set on a typhoon day was an impromptu endeavor. The wind washed the sky into a muted grayish-white, and rain drifted intermittently; yet seeing the pool's tranquil mint-hued water, the cool-toned contrast felt remarkably suited for creating moody imagery.
To align with this dreamy, refreshing ambiance, I chose a twin-tailed wig and a white swimsuit with puffed sleeves, leaning toward sweet, energetic styling. Although a swimsuit, the puffed sleeves and gathered ruching introduced a touch of 2D anime charm, which, placed alongside the abstract white sculptures in the background, evoked a surreal, ethereal mood.
Strong gusts and sporadic drizzles during the shoot required continuous adaptation. The setup featured an EOS R5 Mark II paired with an RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM. Overcast skies effectively served as an expansive natural softbox; the diffused light cast no harsh specular glares, preserving delicate, creamy skin textures with minimal need for retouching. However, heavy winds easily disheveled the hair, making precise candid timing essential. I focused on maintaining bodily stability, utilizing the poolside steps for grounding while adopting subtly curled postures to buffer against the wind. For instance, in one take where my initial pose felt stiff, the photographer advised me to loosen up; resting my hand near my chest as if adjusting the swimsuit strap yielded an effortlessly candid moment with a gentler, more serene gaze.
Regarding posing, perching by the poolside offered varied expressive possibilities. At times, I lightly rested a finger against my chin; at others, I leaned back to let the lines of my upper torso unfurl gracefully. Rather than forcing overt allure, I aimed to convey a quiet innocence coupled with a subtle, detached calm. When the wind caught the hair strands, the chill was palpable, but the dynamic motion in frame was visually captivating.
Post-processing was handled in Capture One, prioritizing translucent skin tones while preserving the cool, muted depth of the grayish-white backdrop, subtly lifting the pool's mint hue to anchor the composition. The pale sky and mint water formed a clean, harmonious color dialogue. This set was not designed to portray any specific character, but rather to explore human portraiture integrated with swimwear elements under atmospheric conditions. Donning a swimsuit in typhoon weather took determination against the biting chill, yet seeing the finished tones and textures made the endeavor deeply rewarding. Each shutter release preserved a slice of that unique mood—capturing a crystalline pocket of mint-toned tranquility at the close of a sweltering summer.
