[Taihou Cosplay] Azur Lane Lunar New Year Qipao: A Prosperous Red New Year

With the New Year mood still in full swing, I've finally sorted out this complete Taihou cosplay photoshoot set featuring her Qipao outfit from Azur Lane. For this shoot, I chose Taihou's modified Lunar New Year Qipao look, where the whole ensemble uses rich Chinese red as its base color blended with a modernized silhouette. The chest cutout features nude mesh paneling, while the neckline is accented with delicate traditional frog buttons and a golden pendant. A plush white faux-fur shawl draped over the shoulders creates a cozy, opulent winter vibe with a touch of lazy elegance. Below, the outfit is styled with black fishnet stockings, garters, and black high heels, which elongate the leg lines while echoing the character's signature gorgeous and alluring style in a captivating Black tights outfit.

For the set, we curated a richly detailed New Year atmosphere. It featured traditional carved rosewood furniture layered with a white plush rug and red floral pillows. Behind the setup hung Chinese calligraphy scrolls and red plum blossom branches, bathed in warm yellow lighting that amplified the cozy, festive ambiance. Holding a gold-inscribed 'May wealth flow in' scroll alongside red envelopes, red lanterns, and plush lion dance head ornaments tied everything together perfectly. The photography complemented the vivid background tones, with subtle halo glow effects added in post-processing to make the crimson and gold palette shine even brighter.

The goal of this photoset was to accurately capture Taihou's unique demeanor in her Qipao look. For hair and makeup, wispy black hair paired with air bangs and her iconic red contact lenses enhanced her vivid expression. Golden head ornaments atop and cascading yellow ribbons echoed the intricate details of the qipao. Compositionally, we explored lying, standing, and seated poses. The seated compositions were especially effective, harmoniously blending costume details and leg lines with the traditional classical furniture. Since the qipao itself features a high side slit, I carefully coordinated my body movements to present an effortless, relaxed posture.

The biggest challenge when shooting Chinese-style cosplay infused with glamorous elements lies in balancing 'exposure' with 'atmosphere.' Rather than jarringly emphasizing skin reveal, the traditional Chinese New Year aesthetic must harmonize with the character's distinct charm. This demands precision in costume, hair, and props—such as detailed embroidery, collar fluffiness, and smooth undergarment fitting. The scroll prop was crucial as well, enriching hand gestures while beautifully infusing New Year blessings into the overall artistic piece.

Every time I do a Taihou cosplay, it feels like an opportunity to push my personal creative boundaries. Managing expressions, gaze intensity, and body language offers a completely distinct experience compared to routine shoots. This year's New Year theme carries both a warm, grounded festive atmosphere and a touch of dreamy lighting. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the costume details and makeup layers, and I hope these visuals convey the fiery joy of the New Year and Taihou's signature grandeur.
