[Jinhsi Cosplay] Shadows of Ancient Books in Wuthering Waves: A Unique Elegance in Chinese Fantasy

A lot of thought went into preparing this Jinhsi cosplay look, with high demands on reproducing the costume material and details. The collision of black, white, and cyan colors in the outfit design conveys a cool yet spiritually agile wuxia feel, especially with the gold trimming on the collar and cuffs, which elevates the overall refinement of the look.

First, regarding the wig: blue-and-white twin pigtails easily get messy during daily care, so this time I specifically used hairspray and smoothing serum to keep the hair strands airy while clearly displaying the blue gradient layering. The twin pigtail structure combined with hair accessories helps frame face contours better. For makeup, to stay close to character settings, eyebrows weren't drawn too sharp to retain a softer feel; eye shadow emphasized eye contours and coloring, fitting Anime cosplay aesthetics without feeling jarring.

The props prepared for this shoot were quite complete, including a calligraphy brush in hand, as well as bamboo slips and books on the desk. Holding that writing brush while shooting reading and writing motions helped me get into character much more naturally. The tailoring of the outfit is very interesting—dark and white color blocking on the upper body, combined with off-shoulder and cinched waist designs, creates a very slimming effect for this Cosplay outfit sharing.

As for the white reflective material pants, lighting required extra attention; any slight misstep could cause severe highlight clipping. The photographer offered many great suggestions, using side-backlighting to outline leg contours while using soft light diffusers to make the white leather look premium rather than like cheap plastic reflections. However, wearing these pants required applying talcum powder on the skin beforehand every time; otherwise, putting them on and taking them off is painful.

For the set arrangement, a traditional Chinese classical study environment was chosen. Behind the background's circular wooden lattice sat a hand-painted plum blossom folding screen, paired with red plum bonsai in front and curling blue smoke rising from an censer, completely maxing out the Chinese style atmosphere. I also tried different states during the shoot.

The first group features a quiet sitting scene reading a book, where the gaze needed to focus closely on the paper to convey a sense of concentration and erudition. The second group utilized hand seal gestures, adjusting wrist strength and finger placement to faithfully reproduce the magic casting form from the lore setting—this series of poses demanded high shoulder-and-neck line precision and required core tightening.

Then we transitioned to holding the weapon. Even though it was a prop sword, it still needed to project aura and decisiveness; holding a sword one-handed feels entirely different from a two-handed grip, and the photographer captured several very tense, dynamic moments. Finally came more relaxed sitting poses—resting the chin on one hand or crossing legs—which leaned into a more casual feel.

Regarding lighting, warm-toned lights were selected to balance out the costume's cold color palette, giving frames a retro texture. Warm light hitting silver-white hair strands reflected a very soft luster, which is one of the details I personally found most satisfying. The addition of smoke special effects kept visual focus more concentrated, creating a mysterious and serene mood.

Through this shoot, it was not only an experience of the character, but also practice for personal expressiveness and camera presence. From outfit coordination and hair/makeup details to pose design, every step strove to recreate the unique traits of this character card. I hope to have more opportunities in the future to try studio shoots with complete story backgrounds and experience the different mindsets brought by different characters.
