This time, I am presenting the look of Asahi Rokka from RAISE A SUILEN in the BanG Dream! franchise, mainly aiming to highlight the character's artistic vibe combined with intense stage presence. When trimming the light blue wig, I paid special attention to layering and an airy feel, as Rokka's bangs and the curves of her sidelocks are highly recognizable traits. The green colored contacts make my gaze more focused, and combined with the slightly expanded blush area under the eyes, they soften the facial contours to match the character's actual age texture.
For the outfit, a black high-collar base, white hollowed-out lace shawl, and army green coarse-knit sweater were paired. This multi-layered Anime-style fashion look gives off a more realistic everyday feel and made it easier for me to relax during the shoot. As for the prop—this pair of metal half-frame glasses with black legs—the angle of holding it in my hand was tested multiple times to ensure it doesn't completely block my eyes while still forming a structural echo with the hair color.
The lighting when shooting this photo set was actually quite casual, without any harsh light impact, leaning more toward skin texture under natural light. Although standing in a very simple corner of a room, through my hand gestures and a slightly upward-looking perspective, I tried hard to make the final photos convey more of the character's original style. RAISE A SUILEN's music inherently possesses a highly unique tension, so when expressing Asahi Rokka, I didn't want to just capture a purely cute feeling; I wanted to capture her serious thinking, composed, and introspective side. Because her personality setting carries a sense of responsibility belonging to the core of the team, this trait is reflected whether she is playing the guitar or in her facial expressions on stage.
For the makeup and styling this time, I actually did a lot of homework, such as the handling of catchlights in the eyes and the selection of lip color, all taking into account the influence of the wig color on the warmth or coolness of the skin tone and facial colors. Ultimately choosing this light grayish-blue wig with a slight blue undertone was in hopes that the overall brightness of the colors wouldn't be too high, making it look a bit more natural when paired with the black and white clothes.
I'm fairly satisfied with the overall outcome, as I wanted to bring out Rokka's vibe of being able to withstand immense pressure on stage and playing music seriously. Although she is often a quieter type with a less prominent presence in the character settings, fans who know RAS should understand that calm yet passionate core within her. I hope this version of the styling has conveyed a different flavor of the character to this cosplay project.
