[Mai Sakurajima Cosplay] Photoshoot Record of Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

This photoshoot topic is the bunny girl outfit; the specific character and work title have already been made clear in the description. During the planning stage, the hair and makeup artist Hua Jiu SAMA and I discussed the visual presentation of this outfit in depth, wanting to restore that unique temperament in the original work that lies between tsundere and gentleness.

The styling part is the highlight of this photoshoot. The glossy patent leather black high-cut bodysuit can reflect rich layers under indoor diffused light, sharply outlining the body lines. The matching glossy black bunny ear headpiece, white collar, black bowtie, and white cuffs with button details, including the wig styling, every single part does its best to stay close to the character settings. Considering the character's facial features, a long straight silver hair wig was chosen and paired with the iconic pink clip, providing layers while avoiding the monotony of a single color. The base makeup was kept as light and thin as possible, using red-toned eyeshadow to blend around the eyes, paired with eyeliner to delineate a deep gaze.

On the day of the shoot, I specifically chose an indoor setting with abundant natural light, using pure white window screening as the main backdrop. This provided a soft and even light-receiving surface, beautifully avoiding excessive reflections on the patent leather caused by hard light. The photographer, Hua Jiu SAMA, was extremely patient on site in guiding actions, especially when handling gaze angles and hand gestures; this kind of candid capture is crucial for subsequently presenting a sense of liveliness. For instance, making a fist to do a cat claw pose, or putting one hand on the waist for a self-portrait posture, allows the frame to generate a strong sense of interaction.

Besides the costume, makeup, and props, how to blend the character's emotions into the lens is a point I always ponder during photoshoots. In the character of Mai Sakurajima, there is a trait of being superficially distant but delicate inside, which also gave me a turning point for emotional expression. During this shoot, I tried to project some of my own feelings, such as a silent prayer for someone's happiness, into the character's demeanor. It might precisely be this unforced softness that makes the final photos feel warmer. The post-editor DEVINJ did not perform excessive skin smoothing, trying instead to preserve the natural texture of the skin while heavily enhancing the reflections on the patent leather and the luster of the hair strands, rendering the overall image colors bright and translucent through this Anime-style photography.

Ultimately, we shot multiple different perspectives including standing, sitting, squatting, and kneeling, striving to fully showcase the character's confidence and agility. For anyone doing cosplay, being able to express their understanding of a character through the lens and encountering a highly synchronized team are very precious things. I hope these frozen frames under different perspectives are not only a restoration of the work itself but can also convey the emotions contained within the photos. After all, the meaning of cosplay lies exactly in transforming through this visual language to bring the beautiful moments of a fictional world into reality.
