This photoshoot logs my recent original Retro sci-fi Astronaut cosplay OC set, framed around a deep-space frontier outpost. Today, I'm compiling my notes on wearing the gear and building the physical props/set details.

Donning this orange jumpsuit is quite demanding. Crafted from heavy-duty nylon-cotton blend with reinforced stitching and padded joints, it delivers an instant feeling of rugged mechanical weight. To simulate extravehicular activity or maintenance work, I paired it with a dark grey wide belt and white harness straps. Operating fine tools while wearing thick white rubber gloves restricts dexterity, but that exact tactile friction enhanced my immersion as a planetary outpost Space technician.

For set building, I laid blue engineering blueprints across the metal workbench, displaying complex mechanical schematics. An old-school CRT monitor beside me served as the centerpiece of the set, displaying green retro code alongside a vintage mechanical keyboard, perfectly anchoring that 80s-90s hard-sci-fi industrial vibe. During the shoot, I actually soldered a small green circuit board with micro connectors. Touching the soldering iron to the pads wasn't just posing—controlling hand movements precisely to capture authentic soldering details required immense patience under the lens.

The focal point of this kit is undeniably the white spherical space helmet. Its glass visor reflects ambient light while creating a soft glow around the face in dark lighting. The fourth photo—sitting on the floor performing repairs—captures the peak state of this shoot: crouching with soldering iron and components in hand, completely immersed and oblivious to the camera to convincingly convey a mechanic's routine hardware maintenance in a deep-space station. Jumpsuit folds, metallic belt buckles, strap edges, and the rubber texture of white gloves under high-stress conditions were all highlighted under warm tungsten shadows.

Wearing this gear induces a palpable sense of isolation. Looking into the lens through the visor in the first photo, that world partitioned by clear glass offers a genuine glimpse into an astronaut's reality—shielded by hardware yet continuously challenged by delicate machinery. Rather than relying on flashy post-processing effects, this shoot focused on set fidelity, controlling cool, moody color temperatures, and using physical props to evoke a quiet Retrofuturism atmosphere. The practical realism in these photos is exceptional, avoiding digital light effects on the circuit board in favor of real lighting and accurate color rendering.
