The clash between this splash of deep blue base color during the Blue Hour and the red Christmas outfit actually possesses more tension than many expected frames. This shoot at comer cafe happened to catch this extremely precious timeframe. The deep blue sky, white snow scenery, and surrounding brown log cabin backdrop formed a highly subtle and richly layered color relationship. Although this perfect Blue Hour only lasts for a few short minutes, as long as you can grasp it, the final photo result truly looks like it has a natural filter.
What I prepared this time is the Christmas style of Sumi Serina from Blue Archive. Regarding the costume, the red-and-white color-schemed Christmas dress coupled with fluffy fur trimming delivers a highly festive visual effect. Material-wise, I specially selected a velvet fabric with a certain thickness, so that even under the outdoor low temperatures and cool light, the overall silhouette could maintain an excellent three-dimensional look and texture. For the floating halo bracket on the head, we did a special hidden treatment this time; it wasn't too heavy to affect my movements, yet could present a very translucent glowing effect in front of the camera lens. The pink bun hairstyle paired with straight bangs and a black metallic-sheen bow looks exceptionally lightweight and sweet under the reflection of the costume.
The temperature on the shooting day was indeed on the lower side, especially during the dusk hours when the wind blew over from the wetland park, making it feel very cold. However, for the sake of the visual effects, I persevered in wearing these black tights and white thick-soled boots. This combination of black stockings and white boots is not only an important component of a Christmas cosplay outfit but also visually balances the large areas of red and white on the upper body, making the overall look sleeker. The scene setup was truly dedicated; we intentionally utilized the wooden windows of the cafe as a foreground, and that blurry feeling captured through the frost-textured glass built up the winter atmosphere just right.
In this set of photos, my personal favorite is the one sitting on the low wall. At that time, the ground was covered with artificial snow, and red-and-green Christmas gift boxes were placed in a scattered yet orderly manner beside it. I tried raising a small gift box over my head, leaning my body slightly forward, and facing the camera with a relaxed smile. The photographer @阿帅阿帅Araw_ very rapidly captured this moment. The composition both highlighted the festive atmosphere of Christmas and fully retained my lower body's black tights and white boots in the frame. Because the Blue Hour is fleeting—the entire sky is only in that perfect deep blue for about ten minutes—after the sky darkened, to ensure the face was clean in the lens, we had to raise the camera's ISO and reasonably utilize the warm string lights of the surrounding cafe as fill light. Ah Shuai had to balance the background brightness and facial exposure in such a short time while managing the soft light reflection on my face; the shooting rhythm was extremely tight, and the entire cooperation process went very smoothly.
Regarding the hairstyle, to keep the wig from getting messy under the windy outdoor conditions, we used styling spray to fix it slightly beforehand. The halo bracket on top of the head was also clamped very stably; although it looks lightly floating in the frame, there is actually an extremely fine hidden support behind it, which was also done to ensure the most perfect floating state in dynamic snapshots. When sitting on that snow-covered low wall, surrounded by quiet trees and crisp cool air, that immersive experience of being completely inside the character injected a lot of inspiration into this shoot. I didn't want my expressions to look stiff, so I deliberately tried some relaxed interactive actions, such as closely examining the golden small bell in my hand or placing my gaze into the distance. These movements need to coordinate well with the body's center of gravity to make the photos look completely natural.
In fact, when preparing this Christmas-themed shoot, I worried about whether the cold weather would affect my performance, but later found that this freezing environment brought an even stronger winter immersion. Haizhu Wetland Park itself has rich natural landscapes, and combined with the Christmas tree, log cabin, and white snow specially set up by this cafe, it serves as a natural winter photography base. During the shooting process, we also utilized warm yellow string lights to create foreground bokeh light spots. Under this alternating warm-and-cool lighting, the pinkish wig texture looked exceptionally silky. After taking this set of photos, I can clearly feel that the entire sense of ceremony for Christmas has been completely recorded by the frames. This kind of festive-themed makeup and styling is itself a romantic expression of life, and freezing a slice of Christmas in such a beautiful night view counts as a highly meaningful souvenir for this winter, making it a highlight for anyone seeking professional photography in Guangzhou.
