Taking advantage of the Lunar New Year period, I have sorted out this set of official photos of the Lunar New Year Qipao Misaki cosplay. From the very beginning of its preparation, this project aimed to showcase the combination of the character's inherent elegant temperament and the festive atmosphere of the New Year. To restore the character's details, a lot of effort went into the wig and makeup. The dark blue long hair is paired with red hair ornaments on both sides, and the silver hair ornament on top of the head, though complex in shape, was surprisingly easy to secure. The overall makeup emphasizes the contour of the eye makeup, which perfectly echoes the outfit when paired with the red lip color.
For the costume, I chose a modified version of the white Chinese Qipao. The fabric features subtle patterns, and the collar and chest adopt the classic red string frog closure design. The shoulders and forearms are paired with warm white fur, making it highly suitable for the shooting environment of the transition between winter and spring. The black over-knee stockings and garter details on the lower half effectively balance the heaviness of the traditional clothing, adding a touch of playfulness and crispness characteristic of an anime character.
The mahogany furniture studio set used for this shoot was a great plus. The wooden textures combined with props like red plum blossoms, red lanterns, and New Year couplets laid a rich foundation for a Chinese-style cosplay tone in the final photos. As for props, ink-wash round fans, folding fans, and the specially prepared 'Happy New Year' scroll in Photo 1 were used, making the visual colors highly rich and unified.
During the shoot, I needed to constantly adjust my sitting, kneeling, and fan-holding hand movements to emulate the gentle yet composed look inherent in the character's personality. The white Qipao easily becomes overexposed against the red background, so the photographer put a lot of thought into lighting control, which not only preserved the layers of the Qipao but also made the character's skin tone look transparent and natural. Compared to other styles I've shot in the past, this modern modified silhouette with clear Chinese-style elements is actually highly recognizable through the lens.
While sorting out this set of photos, I also felt that shooting an Anime-style New Year's photo truly brings a sense of temporal ritual. I hope these visuals can beautifully convey this New Year blessing. I have cosplayed many characters, but whenever it comes to a Lunar New Year theme, the combination of red and white is always the best choice to build the atmosphere. This official set integrates the character's original setting with the ritual of the Spring Festival, and I hope everyone can feel the care put into the layout and location selection.
