This time, we present a two-person gymnastics uniform cosplay work featuring the Highlander Twins, Tachibana Hikari and Tachibana Nozomi. From the overall athletic outfit design to the signature light green hair and golden halos, we strived to capture the unique lightness and agility of these characters on camera.
For clothing selection, the white short-sleeved T-shirt with dark blue collar trimming paired with dark blue gym shorts offered a strong campus sports style. To align with the characters' original body proportions, we adjusted the silhouette of the top and the length of the shorts in post-processing, making the overall fit more tailored and sleek, while adding white over-the-knee socks reinforced lower leg visual proportions.
The head styling served as the soul of these characters. The light green wig utilized a smooth matte material to avoid harsh plastic glare under studio highlights. The golden luminous halo overhead was crafted from rigid translucent material, featuring spiral textures inside and directional arrow structures outside. To ensure the halo stayed firmly atop during shooting, we used custom hair clips and invisible hairnets for reinforcement. Thus, whether executing the hands-overhead rabbit-ear pose in image three or leaning low to the ground in image two, the halo remained perfectly in position.
We also carefully refined the elf ear props so that edge tones blended naturally with skin tones without a noticeable fake boundary. For makeup, to align gaze conditions with innocent character traits, we enhanced eye-bag highlighting, used light-colored contacts paired with reddish eyeliner, and swept large areas of pink blush on outer cheek zones to give faces a healthy, energetic, and youthful glow.
For shooting venues, we leaned toward interiors with wooden elements. The dark green chalkboard and wooden podium in image one created a school classroom ambiance fitting the gym uniform theme, while the light-colored wooden floor and dark wooden door backdrop in images two and three provided clean background undertones. Coupled with warm-toned natural light simulation, reflectors were used to fill light across the subjects' bodies and faces, casting crisp diagonal shadows on the wooden floor that heightened depth and bright afternoon sunlight mood.
In pose design, we consciously highlighted the twins' synchronization. Image three featured both kneeling with hands raised overhead and heads slightly tilted at identical angles, forming a symmetrical twin effect outlined by light that nicely captured their cute daily state. Blue clipboards appeared as simple props in images one and two, adding everyday life and campus atmosphere.
Setting up a duo shoot tested our chemistry; my partner Nozomi and I continuously monitored each other's limb angles, including arm spread angles and lower leg placement. Because gym shorts are relatively short, leaning ground poses like image two carried accidental exposure risks, so we maintained rigorous safety measures throughout. Though this gymnastics uniform look appears fresh and casual, managing frequent pose and expression adjustments consumed considerable physical stamina. The final selected shots successfully achieved our goals regarding light, composition, and character states, delivering the intended lightness and vitality of this work.
