When I first got the concept art for Lucia, my initial reaction was that the clash between mechanical elements and technology was extremely striking. The texture of the silver mechanical arm alongside Cyberpunk style signature black-and-teal color palette made the character's visual center clear. Before starting preparation for this cosplay, I carefully compared many details—especially joints and rivet structures on the mechanical gauntlet. It took quite some time adjusting wear comfort to ensure it looked metallic and rigid while allowing fingers to flexibly handle props.
The location chosen for this shoot was a studio filled with a retro-tech vibe; old CRT televisions and oscilloscopes in the background fit the electronic elements of the character perfectly. The thick blue mechanical book in my hands, fan-blade expanding prop, and metallic staff each carried noticeable weight. Shooting wasn't easy, especially since metal accessories reflected light intensely under studio lights. To find the most natural light and shadow angles, the photographer and I adjusted lighting setup several times. The outfit's main tone is glossy black leather paired with mint green corset panelling, plus thigh metallic chains, golden tassels, and white striped socks, creating rich visual layering, while platform ankle boots grounded the character nicely.
When posing, I deliberately infused my demeanor with a sharp yet relaxed feel, as the character's animal ears and short hairstyle inherently carry a lively vibe. In close-up shots, amber eyes really popped, creating a sharp contrast with the hair color. I'm very satisfied with the third seated picture, where colorful screen test bars in the background complemented the main palette so the image didn't look bland. Indoor temperatures on shooting day weren't low; wearing glossy leather shorts, a choker, and numerous metal pendants naturally felt stuffy, but to demonstrate the toughness in character lore, these physical challenges were minor.
Regarding props, holding the long staff and expanded metal fan tested arm strength significantly. Several captured actions looked effortless, but off-camera I was constantly adjusting balance. For the final standing full-body shot, I shifted weight onto one leg with a slightly forward-leaning upper body, elongating leg lines and making the figure look erect. During editing, we deliberately preserved the natural sheen of leather garments without excessive skin smoothing to stay closer to a Mechanical Girl texture.
Blending the character into retro electronic instrumentation settings was a wonderful experience. It's not as simple as wearing costumes; it requires understanding the character's placement in the worldview. Although this cosplay has room for further refinement in detail, this attempt gave me deeper insight into portraying mechanical characters. Every shutter click aimed to freeze this blend of virtuality and reality. Seeing the final visual output made all hardships in prop making and shooting turn into genuine satisfaction.
