[Lynae Cosplay] Tactical Girl at the Street Corner: The Moment the Prop Gun is Raised

The convention photos from the second Black Dragonfly D1 have been sorted out! This time, I cosplayed Lynae from Wuthering Waves. The shoot was set on an urban street-corner sidewalk, where the crosswalk and scattered stone bollards provided great natural composition, making the overall photography vibe feel much closer to real life. The white shirt and pleated skirt form the foundation of this look. A teal diamond-patterned tie hangs in front, with an ID badge lanyard around the collar and a pair of white over-ear headphones draped around my neck. Combined with the side braid and bone-shaped hair accessories, the entire outfit balances a schoolgirl vibe with tactical elements.

The quality of the final photos relies heavily on the details of the gear. The white logo print on the side of the pleated skirt, the black thigh strap over sheer black tights, and a pair of black patent leather platform block-heel boots create rich visual layering for the lower half. The combination of flattering black tights and high-heeled boots especially elongates the leg lines under outdoor light, while providing stability and tension when stepping on stone bollards or steps.

During the shoot, we experimented with a variety of different poses. For instance, sitting sideways on a domed stone bollard, leaning slightly back, holding the gun in one hand with the muzzle raised near the shoulder, and glancing casually at the camera; or standing on one leg and stepping on steps, maintaining balance to express the character's dynamic movement. For the kneeling pose, I also adjusted the skirt hem and the holding angle of the prop gun, making myself look relaxed yet maintaining a sharp, ready-for-action look.

I collaborated with photographer @8th_Root this time. His utilization of natural light is spot on; under the late afternoon sunlight, the light-and-shadow transitions on the white shirt look very natural, and the highly reflective texture of the patent leather boots was beautifully brought out. For cosplay photography, although outdoor lighting is less controllable, the layered depth of light dapples spilling over the outfit is hard to replace with studio lighting. We shifted between a few spots near the stone bollards, dodging the cluttered background traffic and pedestrians to keep the visual focus entirely on the character.

Back to the character herself—Lynae's design in Wuthering Waves, which appears casual yet features a complete set of tactical gear, perfectly aligns with modern urban fantasy aesthetics. The headphones on her head and the thigh straps are the visual focal points, and I paid close attention to the positioning of these small accessories during the shoot to prevent them from being hidden by folds or shadows. Of course, this outdoor shoot was quite exhausting—especially those platform block-heel boots, which required me to constantly seek balance, and the squatting or stepping-high actions put quite a bit of strain on my knees. The wig was also easily messed up by even the slightest outdoor breeze, requiring us to pause several times to restyle the bangs and sideburns.

Controlling body language during the shoot was also critical. Relying purely on standing poses can look stiff, so I preferred sitting on the bollards or using poses with hand support, allowing the character to interact more strongly with the street environment. Alternatively, lifting one foot created a light and agile visual experience. Although the prop gun wasn't heavy, it effectively guided the viewer's gaze toward the upper body during composition, creating a nice visual balance with the black tights and boots on the lower half.

In this set of convention photos, my absolute favorite is the warm, gentle feel of the sunlight hitting the hair strands and white shirt, along with the moment the breeze stirred the skirt, adding a touch of daily life to the otherwise hardcore outfit. As an outdoor photo shoot outside the convention hall, this casual street atmosphere fits the character's tone perfectly. Without deliberately setting up complex backdrops, simply using basic urban elements can make the character much more vivid. Whether raising the gun or striking a casual pose, I worked hard to capture that unique charm belonging to the character.
