[Keqing cosplay] A Set of Purple Lightning Recorded During Winter Break

Early during the winter break this year, before temperatures fully warmed up, I met up with a friend to shoot a set of Keqing cosplay in an old district. I've always wanted to shoot in a location filled with everyday life, stepping away from conventions and studio sets which feel too limiting. We specifically chose an old area with grey brick walls, wooden doors, and stone steps, creating a striking contrast with Keqing's naturally ethereal yet sharp personality, which actually highlighted her character depth.

Preparing this look took quite some effort. First was that long light-purple hair; to keep those iconic spiral hair buns on top secure without collapsing, we hid internal support wire frames inside the wig, spending nearly an hour styling before achieving a satisfactory curve. Then came the black hollow neck choker—since it sits snug on the neck, a soft inner lining was added for comfort. The upper body features a black spliced bustier with an off-shoulder cut that highlights the collarbone line. The lower skirt is a layered royal blue piece accented with black bows and intricate details; the color palette is quite bold. The key elements were those blue-purple semi-transparent streamers along the edges, which flutter naturally when walking or sitting to add immense atmosphere, though they tend to snag outdoors and require careful sorting.

For lower-body styling, I chose sheer stockings with geometric diamond patterns. The photographer noted that this detail added huge value: the short skirt paired with black stockings and high heels visually elongated leg proportions nicely. The black Mary Jane chunky heels provided stable footing on uneven cobblestone streets, faring much better than thin stiletto boots. The overcast winter weather provided diffuse, soft light without harsh direct sun, perfectly suited for creating a soft "Sweet portrait" texture while keeping skin texture delicate and transitions natural.

We tried several poses during the shoot—sitting on stone steps by a doorframe, lightly tweaking hair with a slightly vacant gaze to capture a quiet yet mildly aloof demeanor; leaning across a concrete bench with a small prop, pretending to contemplate; and curling my legs up while looking down, a narrative-rich posture and my favorite shot, as it captured a moment of quiet immersion without looking at the lens.

Wearing this outfit in cold weather was challenging due to exposed skin, requiring me to quickly drape an overcoat between takes. Cold air made natural expressions tricky, but the photographer patiently adjusted angles and aperture. Keqing in Genshin Impact possesses a decisive, steadfast charm; recreating her goes beyond wearing the costume to seeking that swift, resolute air in every movement. The magic of Cosplay photography lies in bringing 2D characters into reality and infusing them with new life through diverse settings—this everyday Outdoor portrait neighborhood backdrop gave her a touch of grounding warmth. During post-grading, slightly boosting contrast and cool-warm balance made the blue skirt pop and purple hair lean cooler while keeping skin pale and translucent. Though exhausting, seeing the final images made every effort worth it as a wonderful winter break record.
