[Formidable cosplay] Azur Lane teams up with Cheshire: Moments of double joy in front of the camera - Image 1

This time, we bring you Formidable and Cheshire from Azur Lane, completing this duo cosplay photoshoot while taking advantage of the fine weather. When I received this two-person project, I was thinking about how to present two characters on screen together who have completely different personalities and styles, yet both enjoy immense popularity. Today, I'm responsible for Formidable. From receiving this costume to before the shoot, just organizing all the accessories and layered skirt hem took quite a bit of effort. The color scheme dominated by black and white, paired with large areas of lace trim, voluminous puff sleeves, layered skirt frills, and a black headpiece with delicate embroidery—every single detail is extremely meticulous. To wear a Lolita fashion dress with such a heavy European classical aristocratic style properly indeed takes a bit of time to adjust overall posture, especially when bending over or striking a prone lying pose on the floor as in the photo. You not only have to maintain the garment's silhouette and puffiness, but also showcase the character's languid, slightly tsundere, and even slightly mischievous "little devil" demeanor. On the other side, Cheshire is interpreted by my great partner @舒云才不是笨蛋 (Shuyun). Her blue-and-white dress is also full of delightful surprises, where various bows and lace create a visually pleasing cool-and-warm color contrast against my black-and-white dress. This dual-color pairing not only keeps the overall image from looking too dull, but also leaves a deep impression on the audience visually.

The venue chosen this time had an incredible atmosphere. A velvet carpet with intricate classical floral patterns was laid on the floor, and above and around us hung semi-transparent European light tulle veil. Light diffused through the gauze, creating a super soft and dreamlike light-and-shadow effect. The large cluster of blooming purple flowers by my side looked especially striking, which, paired with the white plaster-textured European sculpture pedestal in the foreground and the cascading blue leaves on top, greatly enriched the color layers of the image. The photographer @shiro天天疯 is adept at capturing soft scenes with fairytale vibes, using a slightly high-angle and tilted composition that subtly captured the interaction between me and the purple flowers in a story-rich way.

In fact, on shooting day, we encountered quite a few unexpected small challenges. For example, to find the most perfect lying posture in this slightly narrow space, we needed to repeatedly adjust our body positions on the carpet, constantly tweaking the arrangement of the carpet folds and flower clusters to ensure they served not only as visual accents but also happened to frame my outstretched hands and facial profile. This kind of broad posing action tests body flexibility and stretch immensely. I had to keep my body relaxed and natural while constantly minding the delivery of my gaze and expressions, making the image in front of the lens look stunning without losing the elegant composure dictated by the character setting.

In a duo cosplay project, so-called "double joy" doesn't just mean cosplaying two characters at once; it's showcased even more in the genuine, tacit interaction with one's partner. During long breaks in the shoot, we would help each other tidy up loose hair strands and collars, or remind each other to adjust our breathing. This real, tight sense of cooperation is something post-processing special effects can never synthesize. In this official photo set, although we used separate solo shots without a direct shared full frame, through the seamless harmony between the blue-and-white and black-and-white color schemes, as well as our independent yet interconnected expressions and poses, we were able to convey the atmosphere of their daily interactions in the Royal Navy faction exceptionally well.

In terms of individual character expression, we tried our best to deeply restore Formidable's setting in Azur Lane. Formidable appears well-behaved and languid on the outside, but carries a playful and mischievous trait in her bones. I believe this gap moe is particularly suited to being conveyed through expressions and subtle hand gestures. This lying posture on the ground was chosen cleverly; combined with the huge puff sleeves and fine lace gloves, it not only showcases the exquisite tailoring details from every angle, but also brings out the character's confident composure and a touch of playful scrutiny toward the camera.

After a high-intensity shoot process, although the body inevitably felt tired, the sense of fulfillment was very real every time I saw the soft-toned images taking shape in the viewfinder. We were also very meticulous about the set design, specifically choosing decor close to the Rococo style to complement this classical dress. The soft-focus diffuse light gave the skin texture a clear, translucent look, while under the dual action of backlight and side light, the lace and gauze fabrics presented a semi-transparent, hazy texture that perfectly fit the dreamlike, slightly mysterious atmosphere this set aimed to create. When it was my partner's turn to shoot, I would watch carefully from behind the lens, taking the opportunity to learn posing and angle matching experiences for duo shoots, building up inspiration for future collaborations.

We hope that through this Anime-style photography, players who love Azur Lane can also appreciate Formidable's unique charm from different angles. In such a fast-paced online environment, still being able to calm down and take every photoshoot seriously—from costume selection and crafting, to makeup and hair touch-ups, down to fine adjustments of set lighting—without compromising on any step, is our basic respect for the work we love as cosplayers. This partnership with Cheshire went smoothly and pleasantly, serving as a great creative bonding experience. Looking forward to more comfortable, creative collaboration opportunities in the future.
