[Railway academy cosplay] Blue Archive: Railway Twins Official Costume Shoot Release

I'm finally sharing the organized photos from last year's Blue Archive Railway Academy twins shoot. From early preparation and refining the outfits to the actual photoshoot, the process took quite some time, but seeing the final results made every moment of waiting completely worth it.

The uniforms feature a ton of details: deep navy conductor suits adorned with gold buttons and light blue piping, visually delivering the retro texture of railway workwear while keeping the character's signature delicate flair. To faithfully recreate their look, we prepared the iconic green long hair and elf ears. The luminous halo ring on top was a crucial centerpiece of this styling; we adjusted the brightness multiple times before shooting so it wouldn't be too dim to notice or too bright and overexposed. Thankfully, the final look blended harmoniously with the railway setting. Paired with white gloves, white tights, and navy ankle boots, the whole ensemble created a wonderful gap-moe contrast between formal discipline and playful energy.

The shooting location was an old steam locomotive depot. Those massive black iron engines full of heavy metal industrial weight, surrounded by retro green rail carriages, were our dream location. Standing on the gravel ballast of the tracks or climbing the black iron ladders of the steam locomotive made us feel the chill of the steel, which contrasted wonderfully with the vibrant energy of our uniforms. Photographer @dj-kun demonstrated brilliant aesthetics in framing and layout, embracing the rugged foreground rather than avoiding it, skillfully using the perspective lines of the tracks and the massive scale of the locomotive to frame us.

In terms of posing, we opted for plenty of interactive gestures—such as saluting each other, waving enthusiastically with raised hands, or crouching side-by-side on the tracks looking into the lens. Because the characters are twins, we tried our best to synchronize our expressions and movements. The atmosphere on set was relaxed and cheerful, leading to lots of laughter during takes. Furthermore, an indoor studio could never replicate that real sunlit glow filtering through leaves onto the locomotive's metal body, the Tyndall effect, or the accidental colored lens flares—these were wonderful gifts from nature.

Even though this was shot last year, looking back at the photos reminds me of how great our energy was. The green hair and elf ear look combined with railway uniforms made it almost effortless to get great shots against the rustic industrial backdrop. Selecting shots in post-production continually surprised me with candid moments, especially those natural, playful expressions that captured the characters' lively personalities so well.

The temperature wasn't particularly warm that day, and the wind on the tracks was quite strong, making our legs a bit chilly in short skirts and white stockings. Yet everyone remained thoroughly dedicated, running back and forth along the abandoned tracks to catch the best lighting and camera angles. As one of the featured cosplayers, the tactile experience of an authentic on-location shoot is truly unique. Unlike a studio where every factor is controlled, you have to adapt to the venue, the light, and the rough gravel on the tracks—and these unpredictable elements give the photos genuine vitality.

I am so glad we had this collaboration, which not only captured the characters but also conveyed the distinctive uniform charm of the Railway Academy through these frames. I'm very satisfied with the cut, fabric, and accessory accuracy of the outfits; don't miss out on subtle details like the waist pouches and gloves, as the overall level of completion is very high.
