For this Honkai Impact 3rd Herrscher of the Void Christmas cosplay shoot, the overall styling featured an ice-blue satin dress tailored to a festive scene. Conception-wise, I wanted to present an aloof yet holiday-relaxed atmosphere. The dress itself boasts a plunging deep V-neckline accented by lace and ice-blue snowflake gems at the chest and collar; to elevate the visual highlights, it was paired with matching long gloves and transparent chain embellishments. A white medium-length wig with her signature bangs was selected, topped with small purple and holographic geometric hair clips. Paired with golden-yellow colored contacts and red lipstick, it added a bold, striking touch of presence.
On the day of the shoot, the studio set incorporated dark red velvet drapes alongside Christmas wreaths and vintage ironwork props; this visual clash between red and blue created an intense visual impact. High-contrast lighting was deliberately employed, focusing on illuminating the facial contours and the reflective sheen of the blue satin dress. Although this light-and-shadow treatment deepened the background, it brought out the garment's pleats and layering exceptionally well. Regarding props, the deep red liquid in the wine goblet served as the finishing touch; combined with toasting and pouring motions, it infused the scenes with a stronger narrative quality.
The first pose was a standing toast: angling my body slightly, holding the wine glass in one hand while letting the other arm drape naturally, beautifully accentuating the shoulder and collarbone lines. After a couple of shots, the photographer had me try spinning in place to capture the moving hem. Because the fabric is relatively light, it flared out with tremendous buoyancy; a faster shutter speed was necessary to freeze the flowing skirt hem mid-air, resulting in the most dynamic snapshot of the set.
Another series was shot sitting on the red velvet drape. To highlight the slit design of the skirt, I crossed my legs, holding the wine glass in one hand while directing my gaze toward the lens—a more relaxed state that effectively highlighted body curves. The final shot was taken sitting on the floor with high heels removed, barefoot on the velvet fabric, leaning slightly forward with the wine glass set aside, chin tucked and gaze cast downward. Because the lighting was primarily focused on the face and upper body, the lower body naturally receded into the shadows, giving the overall frame rich emotional tension.
Shooting concepts with holiday themes and pronounced color tendencies always demands tremendous attention to costume details and lighting balance. The metallic charms and gems on this dress reflect subtle glares under the lights, so camera angles had to be monitored closely to avoid highlights obscuring the face. Overall, the synergy between shutter speed and aperture was very satisfying, capturing numerous dynamic moments. Furthermore, the high slit and deep V-cut required mindful posing adjustments to maintain elegance while avoiding any wardrobe malfunctions. In truth, the raw shots already boasted great texture; the inherent drape and soft sheen of the satin were more than enough to carry the entire frame.
