For these Azur Lane Midsummer Cooling Festival Convention photos, I finally found time to carefully select and layout the shots on my phone. Attending an Azur Lane offline event always feels like a massive fan gathering, and this time was no exception—the on-site ambiance was wonderful, and I successfully got to snap photos with the long-awaited Teacher A-Zhao.
This time, I wore Noshiro's blue-and-white bunny ear ensemble. The outfit felt surprisingly lighter on the body than expected. The glossy blue bodysuit showed a soft reflective sheen under the exhibition hall lighting, while the plush bunny pendant on the chest and the large white fluffy tail at the back added great cuteness. Combined with the White tights cosplay, it visually fit the refreshing theme of this cooling festival perfectly. To match this look, I specially customized a long silver-white wig with anti-static treatment so it could stay silky smooth and tangle-free all day in a crowded hall.
In terms of makeup, to convey the character's clear, natural essence, I used a matte liquid foundation base. For eyeshadow, I only used earth tones for subtle contouring, focusing the visual weight on the contact lenses and eyelashes. Ice-blue colored contacts gave the eyes a livelier sparkle, and the lips were finished with a peachy nude-pink gloss. Paired with a translucent setting spray, the makeup stayed remarkably intact even after spending the whole morning in the summer convention venue.
In an indoor exhibition hall like this, lighting isn't easy to control—overhead hall lights can easily cast harsh glare on glossy materials. Luckily, the on-site photographer understood exactly what we wanted; he guided us to pose naturally during interactions rather than striking stiff, forced stances. For example, holding hands sideways with Teacher A-Zhao or looking into the lens together were candid moments captured while chatting. That genuine smile and natural chemistry are nearly impossible to fake in post-editing.
The happiest part was definitely meeting Teacher A-Zhao in person. Her aura was truly captivating with exquisite features, and sharing the frame with her made me feel so fulfilled even if I were just a background. Her look today was also stunning, and like good sisters, we seized every spare moment to take lots of photos together. Honestly, after playing Azur Lane for so long, meeting so many fellow fans who love the same game and characters in real life brings a sense of satisfaction that no virtual interaction can replace.
Of course, the physical toll of cosplaying is very real. Waking up early at dawn for styling, putting on the costume and headpieces, and navigating through the venue all day meant getting soaked with sweat even in a breezy outfit. Props had to be guarded against bumps from pedestrians, and the plush tail had to be protected in crowds from getting squished. Though exhausting, seeing the final photos and recalling the rapid shutter clicks made every bit of effort worth it. Plus, these offline gatherings always recharge one's energy quickly—gathering with people who love the same work to exchange tips on makeup and props is deeply healing.
I really hope Azur Lane hosts more of these large offline events; I'd gladly sign up even if they held ten a year. After all, enjoying the joy of the 2D subculture with so many talented cosplayers on a hot summer day is truly delightful. Having curated these photos, I'm already looking forward to the next convention.
