For this shoot, the location was chosen directly at a temple. Right after a light drizzle, the texture of weathered blue bricks and glazed eaves was breathtaking, bringing the reflection of pavilions mirrored in the pond right before our eyes. The season for cheongsams has arrived; I've always felt that if you're going to wear a cheongsam once, doing so inside ancient architecture rich with historical depth delivers the truest atmosphere.
For the outfit, I selected a dark-toned modernized short cheongsam. The chest features a teardrop cutout design paired with traditional Chinese frog closures at the shoulders, preserving Republican era style elegance while introducing contemporary breathability. The skirt hem is spliced with black lace underneath, creating graceful dimension with every step. To complement the ensemble, I wore black tights paired with glossy black platform Mary Jane shoes. This styling was completely deliberate: purely traditional stilettos might look overly mature, whereas combining platform shoes with a Black tights outfit infuses classical grace with a touch of anime-inspired rebellion and allure, while the platform soles also offered steady balance on stone pavers. Carrying a closed black folding fan in hand perfectly resolved any awkward stiffness regarding hand placement.
Lighting on the day was exceptionally cooperative—afternoon side-rim light caught my hair, making every strand glow. Shooting along the covered corridor offered massive advantages, where rows of sturdy timber pillars formed an organic sense of depth. I asked the photographer to lean on medium-to-telephoto lenses to compress spatial perspective, placing the subject within the scenery and the scenery within the painting. While standing, I angled my torso to the camera with a subtle backward glance to showcase the body's S-curve silhouette. Seated on the wooden bench, crossing my legs toward the lens visually elongated leg lines dramatically. Resting the fan beside my cheek or against my chest with a cool, detached gaze instantly brought forth a commanding aura.
In a serene, solemn environment like a temple, poses never need to be exaggerated. Leaning against a balustrade or gently adjusting the lace trim of the skirt allowed candid snapshots to capture far more natural moments than forced posturing. Although strolling back and forth across stone slabs in platform shoes for hours left my heels rather sore, seeing these interplay-rich frames of light and shadow on camera made every moment worthwhile. A quick tip for anyone shooting similar themes in traditional settings: deepen your eyeshadow layering slightly, dot a faux beauty mark, and coordinate dainty gold bracelets with dangling earrings—these subtle accents elevate the overall Anime-style photography styling. With gentle breezes brushing through willows and the scent of damp grass after the rain, this temple trip cheongsam shoot wrapped up in complete perfection.
